Swap iPhone 4 for Google Nexus S?

I'm running CM7 RC4 on a Nexus One, the only problem I have is with A2SE, but I think that's because the ext3 partition on my SDCard is a bit iffy. Other than that, it's pretty much rock solid, and has some really nice features, for instance it has a power widget built into the pulldown status...

    Windows Server / VPN

Belurgh. No better than a standard home router. Either shell out for a small business firewall (Checkpoint UTM-1 Edge or Juniper SSG5) or go the SBS route.

    Windows Server / VPN

Do you have an existing firewall? What is it? It may have remote access functionality built in that's more controllable (assuming it's a proper firewall and not a netgear soho piece of crap)

    Proxy/VPN - remaining anonymous

^ This. Due to the very natures of the way TCP/IP works it is very difficult to totally anonymise your connection (if not impossible), all you can do is to make it as hard as possible for someone trying to trace you to get at the logs off of the devices you bounce through. Ideally what you...

The "Ive taken a pic and I kinda like it" thread

ISO: 800 Exposure: 1/25 sec Aperture: 4.5 ISO: 800 Exposure: 1/4000 sec Aperture: 5.6 Just two of the shots I feel happy with of the 1500 I've taken since getting my camera a couple of months ago.

HTC Desire HD (Black) or Samsung Galaxy S / Ace

If you're thinking of getting the Galaxy S, get a Nexus S instead. Pretty much the same guts, just with some added extras and also, you're pretty much guaranteed to get the latest Android updates first (being that it's a full Google Experience" handset)

Contract opportunity - London - Contains work...

Funny you should say that. My company has just contracted me out to BT for 3 months to do some work for a large UK bank bringing their entire firewall estate (the banks) under management. My company is getting £750 a day for this contact, being a salaried employee, I don't see that much...

    Crown Kinect Mount

I know that the official ones do fit Samsung LED TV's. The do look a bit silly though as they jut out about 2 inches. The official one is studier as well I think as it actually attaches to the back of the TV rather than just sitting on top.

    Taking pics of the moon.......

1993 is the last closest which was 356529 km, this year is 356577 km, and the next one to beat that is in 2016 which is 356511 km.

    Taking pics of the moon.......

It's not that much bigger. Only 2% larger than normal, which isn't a lot at all. Full moon is pretty much the worst time for interesting shots of the moon, they look far too flat, you get much more interesting shots with a waxing or waning crescent as you get much more definition around the...

MPSL lines - General basic query.

To be honest, I'm probably the wrong person to ask about prices, I always leave that upto someone else :-p Though it might be worth taking into account that if most of the traffic is going to be from your smaller sites to your main site, your main site should have a larger bandwidth than all...

MPSL lines - General basic query.

Sounds like you'll probably have to bite the bullet and go MPLS. You won't be disappointed though, as for a start the bandwidth you pay for will be the bandwidth you get, and it is much easier to upgrade the available bandwidth at a later date as they will generally put in a much larger bearer...

MPSL lines - General basic query.

No, it is not as simple as using different routers. With an MPLS network you are connecting into their MPLS WAN and then your tagged packets are routed over that private network to their destination. What it sounds like you have is a SHDSL internet connection on each site, so you connecting...

A few snaps from Abu Dhabi.....(again)

Fair enough :-) I know what you mean, my attempts have been a bit gash, but I can't even get a single exposure looking like that shot yet :-( Practice, practice, practice I think :-)

Weird issue with my premier inn broadband...

It sometimes helps if you enable pop-ups, as IIRC the premier-inn wifi has a popup window that shows your connection status which also does some keep-alive stuff.

    Talktalk DNS issue?

copy/paste doesn't always work correctly with password fields. sometimes you get a carriage return character on the end or something like that. Try typing both manually. I've come across this happening on loads of different devices, expecially if you are copy/pasting from html based e-mails.

    Lens Creep?

That's an urban myth. The window thickness thing is due to panes of glass in old windows being made of blown & spun glass instead of float glass. I think what limits large telescope lenses is simply the weight of them, and the difficulty of making such massive clear pieces of high quality...

Advent Vega - anyone used one?

I've messed around with one. They're not to bad at all. A mate at work bought one and let me borrow it for a couple of days. The viewing angles are fine when it's in landscape mode, but are narrower in portrait. They do seem to have them in stock in some PC World stores, I would recommend...

    Images from Human Planet

I've caught a couple of episodes, they're pretty damn good. Also, the last 10-15 mins of them are a mini-making of bit about the episode about how they managed to capture the images which is really interesting. If the Planet Earth Bluray is anything to go by, Human Planet with be freaking...

What is THE best single game you've ever bought and why?

+1 for elite on the BBC Micro. I still occasionally break out BeebEm and have a blast, (along with Chuckie Egg), I also really liked Frontier: Elite II, even if it was a little buggy. My other choice (though technically I never bought it, I rented it for 10p a time :)) would be PacMan. Will...

    Free Online Portfolios.

Picasa may be of some use to you. It allows you to share albums on a case by case basis, and I believe you can limit the sharing to individuals as long as they have a google account.

    Shooting the moon

Here's one of my first attempts of the moon. http://skywatching.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/moon.jpg (couldn't embed, don't seem to be able to resize the inserted pic) Taken using Cannon 450D with a Tamron 70-300mm @ f/5 and 1/25th second exposure. Pretty good for a cloudy night. My mate has...

    Nifty Fifty' Goodness

The 18-55mm kit lens is f3.5-f5.6, the 50mm is f1.8. Really fast lens for the price. It's a prime lens though, so you got to be at the right distance to take your pic.

    Scroll 7" Tablet

Check out the Advent Vega Nice little bits of kit for £245. I've had one playing 720p video. Three people I know have them. Multitouch, 10 inch screen, runs Flash, and if you get the Modaco custom rom to run on it, it has full Market access. It's probably the best of the Android 2.2 tablet...

    HTC Desire to iTunes

Then she hasn't connected her phone correctly. When you plug into the USB you should get a menu up that asks you what connection you want. You need to choose "Disk Drive", then it will appear as a new drive on the PC. Just like if you had plugged in a USB stick. If the menu doesn't pop up...
