    Sharing / Mapping network folder

http://www.onecomputerguy.com/networking/xp_vpn_server.htm That might be of some help. You WILL need to make a static NAT from your firewall to the server.

    Ways around port blocking

If it comes down to it, try tunneling out over ICMP. http://www.cs.uit.no/~daniels/PingTunnel/

    Installing a Web Proxy Server.

does that mean that the proxy.pac file works with IE7 / firefox etc but not with IE8? The syntax looks fine to me. The only thing I can think is that the proxy server is not responding in a "reasonable" amount of time and therefore drops back to it's second choice (DIRECT). try doing the...

    Google Links Redirecting.

If you cannot gain access to AV/anti-spyware sites, the first move is to check c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (open in notepad). In theory (unless you have specifically added stuff here) it should look like: If you have any entries for anything else in there (especially av sites etc)...

    Ways around port blocking

As a Network Security Engineer, I can confirm that this tactic does work. Though the issue may not even be with your local firewall (i.e. your universities). They are probably sending web traffic out via JANET and they may filter that stuff out there as well. So you may need a cake shop and...

    Down grading with a plan

God knows what his driving style is. I razz the f**k out of my 182. My daily commute is a 50 mile round trip, 1/2 motorway, 1/2 dual carriageways and roundabouts round town, I pretty much floor it everywhere. I still get, even on my worse weeks, 30mpg. the only time I ever got anything near...

    Sky+ HD or V+ HD

If anything, ADSL is even worse for peak time congestion, if you use a standard ADSL account your contention ration at peak times is likely to be 25:1 or even 50:1. Virgin halve your download speeds when you download to much, check out http://www.virginmedia.com/help/traffic-management.php, as...

    Ipod Cover flow problem!

While not an itunes fix as such, i had similar with compliation albums in Media Players library. IIRC I fixed it by propally tagging the files, making sure that they all have the same Album Artist tag which is what most mp3 players actually seem to use when clasifying an album.

    Media Centre/Player

I use TVerstiy to stream to my Xbox360. It's great, it will directly stream xvid/divx/mpeg and transcode anything that the xbox can't nativly play. simply install, point it at the folders you want to share, let it catalogue the files and it's ready to go.

homehub is s**t, can i use my netgear instead?

Re: homehub is s**t, can i use my netgear instead? The first being poor and riddled with security flaws. :S:S If ever anyone asks me about a Homehub problem I just tell them to replace it with something decent. Though at least give them their dues, at least BT are consistent, they're ADSL...

    New HD TV quandry

I personally prefer the picture type from the LCD over Plasma. That was all I really based my decision on, then having decided to go down the panel route I thought I might as well get the best one out there :-) which, by all accounts, appears to be the Samsung LED ones. Also, I have a habit of...

    New HD TV quandry

Sweet, at least I'm not going down a totally nobby route. Now just to find the place that'll give me the best deal. Bizarrely dixons appear to be the cheapest for the TV.

    New HD TV quandry

I have recently come into a bit of cash, and have decided that it's time to upgrade my TV. Until yesterday I was pretty much decided on a Samsung UE40B8000 or UE46B8000 (so either 40 or 46" 200Hz LED). That was until yesterday when I went for a bit of a nose around Currys just to check out the...
