    what turbo

£600 - £800 brand spanking. Second hand they're quite rare. You could use a GT17 from a 2litre LPT Saab 9-5 if you want easily available as these are fairly close in terms of peak flow capacity etc. to the GT25R. Cheers M

Are Carbone Lorraine Pads really that disc hungry

Surely not! That's insane and doesn't match with what we've found on the X85's with HC's and a variety of PF pads. Was this wear related replacement or cracked/failed/cooked discs? Cheers M

GT25R probably the best bet. Cheers M

    RR Result at RS Tuning

It was a few years ago now but people don't really realise the panic and upset Renault caused when they released the 172. Previous to that 140bhp was a "hugely" powerful hot hatch. 150 - 160bhp was for the mid size performance hatches. Renault popped along with a north of 170bhp teeny tiny hat...

    RR Result at RS Tuning

LOL the entire 206 180 project was a joke from start to finish. Initialy it was supposed to be a new cylinder head design and hello 180bhp - ended up being an entirely new engine bar block and basic components, went massively over budget and still rarely made more than 165bhp. Perfect proof of...

Are Carbone Lorraine Pads really that disc hungry

What discs? I've had 2900KM's from a set of 97's with discs still in decent health. We did two sets of 01 compounds to a set of discs in the 24 hour and regularily see two sets of 05's to a set of discs in general race use on the 197's, Cheers M

    NSX Kit

DTW Engines - Good chap and a very good engine builder. Quite a few options for looms, including us - PWS the wiring arm of Pi can produce anything you need in any spec. It'd be nice to see a fully AS'd mil-spec loom but obviously there is a cost issue here. We're currently doing all the...

    NSX Kit

Liking this project. For the record Pectel is the engine control electronics arm of Pi Research, its not a seperate company - just a different department of Pi Research. Pi is part of Cosworth. It does get confusing ;-) ECU wise I would strongly recommend a Pectel SQ6M, especialy as this...

    Big brakes

No difference between Max or HC in terms of material grade etc. Only difference is one set have some grooves cut into them. The difference this makes is questionable at best! Cheers M

    clio going for ITB's tomorrow

You are always going to struggle with initial start with ITB's or any inlet/throttle design which does not feature a method of delivering additional airmass. Bit of throttle should see it fire up fine though. Cheers M

Is anyone running an Emerald ecu?

Well thats if you went to 830 Spec, Mark asked if it was easy to swap over to a 730 Spec VVT setup. As such you wouldn't have infinately variable cam control and hence why I was confused! Cheers M

    NW coilover fitting

Okay well V1's don't have adjustable bump or rebound. They are fixed damping rate. If anything they're a bit soft for track use but they do work well on the road and maintain suspension compliance which is very important. You don't have to worry about working out what bump/rebound settings to...

Good cars and very tuneable! I like them. Cheers M

    NW coilover fitting

What coilovers are you planning to go for and what adjustability do they offer in terms of bump and rebound adjustment? Pretty much any proper motorsport place will offer corner weighting. Its an integral part of race car and sports car setup - if you have a Lotus specialist near you they'd...

    NW coilover fitting

I've never known a 24 hour race car with one driver, or a governing body that'd allow one driver to race for 24 hours. That's the point of corner weighting the car though. It allows you to account for different fuel loads and driver weights and keep the car as close to ideal with all of it as...

Seconded, standard one by far the best bet for naturaly aspirated road use cars. Cheers M

    197 power steering issue

Powersteering on the 197 is via an EPAS unit mounted on the column inside the car. There should be no reason why its heavier/lighter due to ambient temperature. Best get it checked if its definately heavier as something will be causing it. Cheers M

    NW coilover fitting

When you've spent at least 600 quid why would you not set them up so you have the benefit? If you have adjustable spring platforms one would hope the car sees a bit of fast road/track action at some point and usualy if you're 'on one' you do tend to be on your own. Maybe its me but I just...

    NW coilover fitting

So would I, but why on earth is that a good thing? As I said set them up properly so they give a benefit or just stick some springs on. Cheers M
  22. I

    NW coilover fitting

ROFL Oh FFS. Corner weighting is overkill is it? The only practical reason for height adjustable coil overs is to allow you to accurately corner weight the car in conjunction with running a lower static ride height if required. Renault don't corner weight every car as standard because the...

    oil consumption 172 / 182

Minimal oil consumption on mine. It's done 100K and lives at 7500RPM too! Cheers M
  25. I

    NW coilover fitting

Whoever is fitting them really should have corner weight scales and geo gear as a minimum. Otherwise its just bolting bits on. Setup of the spring platforms etc. to ensure suitable corner weights is just as important as actualy throwing the bits under the car. Cheers M

Why would you want to do that? Cheers M

Renault should get back in the BTCC?

New Megane Coupe would be perfect. S2000 rules, engine off the peg from Sodemo, SQ6M ECU, Sadev or XTrac box, brakes from AP, suspension from Ohlins, Cage by Matter. Looms etc. could all be done by PWS. Need a team of 5 guys on a 5 day 37 hour week for 4 months to build two cars - then 7 guys...

Is anyone running an Emerald ecu?

If it's on a 730 then its just a simple make or break for VVT actuation so just drive it off a digital output. 830 requires PWM. Emerald offers RPM switched digital outputs so should be a problem driving it and at least one of the outputs should be of a sufficent rating to drive the actuator...

    Big brakes

But if you are stopping the car OK why is it far from good? If you're generating sufficent retardation from the brakes to outbrake most things on track then are you really worrying that your pad wear rates differ side to side whilst you're doing it? All the 1*2 Cup race cars I've worked with...

    Big brakes

No its not got 'uprated' discs if it's got EBC on there. They are shite, cheap, poor quality discs that have completely useless bling machined into them to appeal to boyos and are usualy coupled with equaly cheap and useless 'colourful' pads. Standard kit is far and away better than this...
