I think it's as old as me, but I think it takes better pictures than my 17-85mm. Downside is mine being a crop then the 35mm is around 50mm, so it doesn't venture to wide-angle. Shame, as the 17-85mm is 'average' as they go.

On the flipside of this I can think of plenty of reasons why the engine will have excessive wear: 1) Started every morning for 30 seconds to move it to the front. 2) Ragged from cold by the staff because of what it is. 3) Ragged from relatively cold by random tyrekickers. etc.
