but that will be a pain in the arse and will cost me :( I am using a pug downpipe, maybe that is my problem! How much clearance do people get using the top half of the 172 cat?
Ah yes, didnt think of this! :rasp:
Any idea on dropping the subframe? My exhaust is currently fouling on something directly below the doughnut joint. Is this the subfarme? As in, If I was to remove the subframe totally would I be able to see that joint fully?
I think you would have to alter the angle drastically for it to become an issue! The CV joints will allow more abgle than standard to a certain degree.
Tomorrows plans:
1) Fit the proper spring bolts onto the manifold-cat joint as it is currently using solid bolts.
2) Sort out the coilpack location once and for all!
3) Raise the engine mounts another ~5mm to try and get full clearance on exhaust. (Although just this evening I had a thought...
I might try and see if I can turn the box around so the inlets face the front and hook up some CAF to it but for now it is ok. Also if you noticed I had to use the standard elbow the wrong way around to get it to fit, as the flexi bit helped locate it!
Hmm, its not ideal! The inlets on the box are facing into the corner of the bay but for some reason I can not get the box to sit in betweem the battery and thermostat housing like everyone else has been doing.....:S Also the standard elbow is too big/long so I need to buy a silicone 1 that I...
Actually yeah I wouldn't mind getting that from you, the reservoir seems to be floating about right now. Might as well secure it properly!
Edit:
Oh also mate, I fitted my coilpack back where it should be like you have and "waterproofed" the plug but when I shut the bonnet I am sure it is...
Removing the old loom 1 wire at a tiem and connecting in the new loom:
New loom fully wire in, but into connector blocks as a temp job just to make sure it was all running nicely:
It all ran fine so next up was my super duper cable box!
LOL! Yeh it was a right s**tter when that decided to f**k up in the fast lane of the M1.
Anyway, today I fitted my new loom and this time decided to do a proper job and make it nice and tidy! Cue my sparky skills coming through! Pics on their way! ;)
Loom off - Will get pics of the damage later!
On a plus note I am now off out to Surrey to buy a new loom! I don't like hanging about looking at dead cars
Cheers, I will try and take the loom out tonight and assess the damage!
Does anyone know if I will need to remove the manifold to get access to the starter?
I think it has melted through a few other cables :(
Does it run in series from battery-starter-alternator? So there is 2 cables at the starter and 1 at alternator?
Had a bad day today! :dapprove:
Engine loom caught fire on the M1! I was driving along, car was running perfectly. Next thing I knew, engine died... I puled over to hard shoulder and smoke starting pouring from the front end.
I quickly jumped out and popped the bonnet, and the engine loom...
I just bought 1 of these:

Is that spring assembled correctly in the pic or does that gasket need to be touching the actual exhaust?
Cheers dude, pretty happy with myself. First time I have doen anything like this and it only took me 3 days from start to finish! ;) Although alot of credit due to all the other Mk1 F4R boys for ironing out all the issues first! ;)
Just went to meet Matteh and he sorted out my clutch pedal, we trimmed the pedal stop and adjusted the ratchet and the pedal is now PERFECT! :D
The car was great to drive before but now it is really awesome! So easy and no "pushing" it into gear!
Thanks again mate! (The drive home was spot...
Well I have used a custom downpipe from a peugeot, perfect fit and used a new pug fire ring/gasket thingy. Will williams manifold springs be ok to use?
Would it be fine to use the springs from my williams manifold? If so, do I just put a bolt through the engine side and then use the springs on the cat side? How tight does it want to be?
No but will get some later. How far does your coolant gauge go up before your fan kicks in? Mine goes past where it did with the valver lump which worried me a bit.
