FINAL UPDATE OF 2016:
2017 has to be the year that this gets completed, I have good people around me, somewhere to work on the car and only one way to go with the build - forward (the car couldn't be any less like a car currently).
I have now finished stripping the car back having now gone...
Fair play man, Was going to ask if you were coming - would have been good to put a face to a name but your reasonings are obviously valid. Maybe another day. Enjoy parenthood and enjoy the new car
if you have gone through the thread you will have seen its been difficult getting to this point, just basically not giving up.
As for the ability to do the work - there is nothing to it really - just patience
UPDATE: With another day on the car and it now sat the right way up more stripping could happen, this time the engine bay and front outer wheel arches. A relatively quick job but there is loads of little nooks and crannies.
I then spent the rest of the time organising the garage. With the...
So interestingly I went and watched my mate at combe last weekend, and decent contact was made with his front corner/wheel... its taken the powdercoat of the rim, but otherwise all good.
UPDATE: So I wanted to get the car back down on axle stands before my wedding, and sure enough managed it...
he carries a spare set of rays (with wet tyres on) so could always change to them.
In the series he is running in he is struggling to find a quality tyre and stock of AD08's are extremely low. He is also struggling for grip, after researching civic's racing in japan he found they were running...
mmeeeooowwww.
He is not doing it to be different, he is doing it to get more grip the best way he can (whilst under the tyre restrictions of his championship). bigger width gives more footprint (i can go into the reasons far more if you like). Also do you know the origin of Image and the billet...
Started researching cages (well started a long time ago) but close to purchasing now. It looks like it is going to be the Oreca Race cage, http://www.oreca-store.eu/turn-one-multi-point-weld-in-roll-cage-for-renault-clio-ii-1998-2005.html It seems to have a really good fit and seems to come in...
It was pretty scary and the first point whilst working on it with that tool, that its happened. But i was suited up with a thick hoody - that took the brunt, very lucky. I paused for a bit, then continued on. Yeah you would of followed it in fastcar, and yep it had a yellow cage, I sold that as...
UPDATE:
Just the front drivers side turret to do now before the car can go back down on axle stands and the cage can go in.
Somehow managed to break/snap the fuel filler bracket/hinge whilst removing it... oh and almost cut myself in half with the wire wheel on my grinder...yesterday was a good day
UPDATE:
Another dirty day on the car, but it feels like it is moving along fairly well now. I spent saturday morning stripping the rest of the passenger side arches, this wasn't too bad and makes it feel well on its way. However this left me in the situation of needing to flip the car over...
SMALL UPDATE:
Just more sound deadening/under seal removal, its a long/dirty job but getting there with the front passenger arch done, the rear passenger arch half done and the rear boot floor done that only leaves 1/2 an arch before the car will be turned over to do the other 2 arches. Excited...
I had thought about them obviously. But hadn't seen you selling anything and wasn't going to ask/pester you about them as didn't want to encourage you to sell up. PM me if they are going and a list of anything else that i may be interested in.
UPDATE:
So I may have potentially sold my custom Image Billet 95 wheels and the AD08's they are currently wrapped in. This wasn't planned, or at least not yet however a friend racing civics is in need of something and these seem to fit the bill perfectly. I was perfectly aware that for the clio...
Totally agree with where you are coming from - when anything stops becoming fun then move on. Everybody's scenarios are different, just do what you feel is best (not that you need me to tell you that)
I have been in this position alot with mine (whilst its soooo far from working). The thing is i was never really sure what i would replace it with, sounds like you are a step further than i ever was, really would be a shame to see it go, but sometimes we do have to move on.... wish i never sold...
Turns out a guy I play hockey with is a wind tunnel engineer for Redbull...
another guy is a gearbox engineer there and seems to have a great CV with WRC, BTCC and F1.... MK is alright for some things it seems
Blimey - I wondered what could of happened when i get a reply saying, the car is alright, we are alright but its the end of the weekend.
Real shame that it ended that way, but its sounds like it was destined to be that way - fair play for pushing on, and a real reflection on the mates you have...
uummmmm...... hope that extra TOW isn't an issue for the journey over now. Nightmare,
Have a great time and enjoy all the hard work sir. Build is awesome.
yeah know what you mean - i really want to sort some aero out on it, but without wind-tunnel or some form of testing i will never know if it works properly, so therefore the inner nerd is just saying no.... hey @Tony Hunter
I did look through your thread after i asked you, then realised which one was yours, whats your reasoning for removing the diffuser again?
Totally appreciate your advice, and that was my thought process (i will only do this once), but the other part of my thought process is will me and my...
Tony plus a few other peoples opinions (people who race track and rally events) advising not to bother for various reasons (a few pages back i think). I was initially thinking it would be a good idea whilst i was here, but on reflection and speaking to various not doing it also makes a lot of...
think i will for now, then will go full aero as an upgrade when my hillclimb times aren't good enough and i need to waste a load of money to make them better
UPDATE: a pretty boring one, and don't i know it....
another full day working on the underside of the car (now all the bolt on bits are done), it really didn't feel that i got very far, but its another large area of the underside stripped. The fuel tank area has lots of little indents, nooks...
