Dark purple - would be ballsy, I have thought about the Petrol blue (but I think that is metallic)
Anthracite - is metallic so I won't be going down that route
Focus RS grey - is very much like Audi Nardo grey and I am really not keen on that/has been done to death
Acid yellow - won't work...
Exactly. I am tempted with RB, or a lighter blue (like sky or baby blue), then have thought of a dark purple being a little more brave.
Dark green has also come into my head, even White appeals a fair bit... With regards to grey/silver - if I am paying £2k+ for a paint job I kind of want a...
It will be busy, but exciting. I really appreciate it that it will be pushing me to get on with it, thats great - I suppose it is the extra expense it will cost to do it this way... but oh well (you can't take it with you). I am unsure on grey in all honesty. I think it will probably be a solid...
BIG UPDATE:
This thread has had its fair share of ups and downs, this has mainly been down to how long it has taken, which in no large part has been down to life being more important, understandably other things have had to be put first - jobs, growing up and buying a house, weddings etc... and...
Mine is a little slow in comparison to the summary in this thread, ha.
I must admit the bad luck and ultimately expense you have faced is why I do not think I will ever commit to a series/season. I think trackdays and one off events may be my choice. Good luck though for the future.
Great thread, but you haven't half had some bad luck - blimey.
Will be referencing this thread also in my rebuild - interested to hear how the brake lines are as I will be fitting some shortly
UPDATE: First up, I thought I best change the thread name. The last thread name was a little arrogant, time for something a little more honest.
So I am still trying to sort the extra tubing to tie in the rear suspension turrets, but something has been ordered and is on the way - hopefully this...
Still having issues trying to find rear strut top items and have potentially a proper deadline to get the car finished now - MARCH 2018.
I really need to get the fabrication work started asap, then get it booked in for paint.
I contacted Custom Cages directly about this after your PM and they had no idea... said they could only supply the tubing, but then they don't have the tube at that size...
So after getting the original cage from Sassa/Oreca I have decided how I am going to alter it.
Unlike what I have mentioned above I have decided against triangulating to the rear beam mounts. I have spoken to several people who have made interesting points that although you may strengthen this...
Interesting yeah, I am looking at doing my cage now and debating whether to triangulate there or not. Its much the same thought with welding the chassis - effectively you are just dispersing the stress though some other point... not always a good thing.
Hi Russ,
Does your cage pick up the rear beam mounts? I noticed you have the strengthened rear beam but couldn't see triangulation to the rear beam mounts?
Ah, you meant engine conversion. That will be interesting. must have a look at that (the link doesn't work though).
Interesting that you advise doing it yourself. I have made sure my neighbour is very much on-board as didn't want it to be a hassle and it to be a pain to try and build it.
I...
Megane set-up? not sure I am aware of that, sounds interesting.
TBH I have to deliberations about the cage
1. Am I actually going to notice the difference if I triangulate to the turrets, and then secondly the beam mounts.... I am no "insert pro driver name here"
2. Rather than welding this...
Thanks for that link, looks well handy. There is a local fabricator I can probably source the tubing from, will just need to look at assembling the turret parts and the plating/spacers for the rear beam mounts.
I am now looking into doing this and looking at the base way to do this without being able to weld/fabricate myself.
@scotiamr2t do you have a project thread? would be interesting to see what you did.
I am afraid I can't remember where I saw the link or what the subject matter was. sorry.
I think I am going to be taking inspiration from the cage first, I have been advised to triangulate to the rear turrets and rear axle mounts.... I think as you say the fabrication stage is going to take a...
It really feels like I am on the verge of really getting back into moving forward with the build as the cage has now turned up and I can start looking forward to the fabrication stage. Over the past few days I have been reading @Tomotek's build thread, not only does that make my thread feel less...
I have been on CS a fair while but time I have to visit the site has massively changed. I saw a link to this thread from facebook and have spent the past several days reading it in stages.
I think someone else has summed up how I feel - jealous, but in a good way. The quality and attention to...
Was going to ask you about the holes left by removing the rubbing strips and whether you sealed them or not. My question has been answered.
Guessing the roof scoop sits over the aerial hole?
lovely garage set-up by the way
