Its common to have just the service stamps but no receipts if the car has been sold through a dealer at some stage. Id always rather the bills than service book though and I would have thought the guy would have kept the receipts if hed had the jobs done himself (jobs like clutch are not really...
Go for it - the bottom end and head will probably be fine. Bear in mind though that a 2.0 F7R bottom end would probably make a more flexible drive and would cost about the same to do overall. Having said that, you do lose the turbo-like kick and driving character of the 16V in the process and...
Id want to see all the receipts really - even if theyve done the work themselves. The cambelts will have been done by 112k as theyd have snapped anyway by those miles if not done! Ideally, youd want to see a new or rebuilt gbox, new diffs/driveshafts, new alternator/starter and maybe some new...
Best mod ever for £50.
I run a Mongoose system with a BB de-cat (as does BenR, but not by choice I think). Loud as hell. Warbles like a turbo on full throttle at low revs and pops and crackles like the Group A Clio Maxi rally car would. Just awesome and motorways are not a problem with...
Guess how many miles this car has on the clock:

Give up? OK, its mine and its on 103,000 and rising fast. Those miles have been from fun -...
Id say that a de-cat is the cheapest power mod you can do. Sound is not to everyones taste, but it does vary according to what system you have cat-back and mine is a lot more bearable than I was led to believe! The pops and flames make it worth it.
Dont forget that an open filter like the...
Engine mount? Steering/suspension component?
Should be pretty easy to see whats going on with the 1.4 Enery lump in the engine bay (I used to have a Mk1 1.2).
Front wheel bearings will typically cost £80+ per side for the part to be fitted properly with a Renault tool. Unless its done properly, the bearing will last 10,000 miles - maybe less. I speak from experience!
It will be the "dog bone" mount for sure if the gearstick rocks, but then its...
The Valver seems a bit unfortunate sometimes in that if you say "I have a Clio sixteen-valve", most people say "so what?" in the same way as if youd said it had injection. For those whod never seen a Valver, it would be easy to think you were talking about a very average car, such is the extent...
Doesnt sound worth doing any more engine-wise as the engine doesnt need to come out of the car to change the mounts (just has to be supported). Id have all the mounts replaced at the same time as the new one(s) will accelerate wear on any old one(s).
The wheel bearings are worth checking...
You can also bash a socket onto the head of the nuts or drill them out. Last resort, but both work (from experience!).
Id never touch them again. Rather have my wheels pinched - and they only take another 30 seconds for a pro thief to get them off.
If you really want only to go faster, then the 2.0 F7R bottom end is the way to go. I almost did it myself, but the deal fell through at the very last moment (breakers actually lost the bottom end!).
The previous owner of my Valver had some work done to the head and cams - and the car...
Lovely car - a late Phase1 by the looks of things.
You pay for what you get with painting: ask for a breakdown of the quotes you get and see what the labour rates are. If the labour per hour is the same for two different quotes, then they must be spending longer doing the work or using...
I think it would look great lowered on some alloys (Renault or aftermarket) and colour-coded.
Just my humble opinion, but Id stick to that and leave the Halfords add-ons on the shelf. The best looking cheaply moded cars are always low and clean.
The only reason that the Willy will not do 60 in 2nd is because it revs lower than the 16V.
The Willy box uses the same gear ratios and overall crownwheel diameter as the 16V one. But the Willys 5th gear is taller, the bearings are higher quality and the secondary shaft is uprated -...
Just returned from three weeks away. I was thinking of selling up before I left and was going to mull it over the holiday - and that I did!
Well, maybe I will get a Fiat Coupe/something else some day, but for the time being the Valver is staying. Probably the biggest thing that made me...
My Valver has a voratious appetite for oil, though I think its not helped by a minor leak from around the sump gasket. Clutches are mega heavy as standard - even my old Mk1 1.2s clutch bore comparison with supercar clutch weights!
Yup, black is the very best colour and heres mine - lowered -30mm at the front and about -20mm at the rear. This is not "very" low by 16V standards, but shows you what the first step would be.

Wanted to keep it original on my car, but the Elf sticker was looking tatty on my Valver when I got it, so I swapped it for a cool-looking "Rothmans/Williams/Renault" one in the same colour and of the same size. I picked that up at Donny 2002 and it looks original.
Ive recently gone to...
Standard airbox will probably give you better launches off the mark as the theoretical benefits of having cool air rammed in at speed will not accrue at slow speeds (obviously!).
But as someone who spends most of their time ripping along clear A/B-roads in the early morning, Im sure it wont...
