    FAO anyone with alloys.

A thinner tyre means the weight of you car will have to be spread over a smaller surface area therefore more weight per square inch!;) Also your new mint alloys dont get eaten by the salt!!

    Paint bubbling....

Youll never really get rid of rust once it starts. As Steve said its better to get it cut out and a new piece inserted. If ur a bit handy you can always take it down to the metal by grinding the rust out and then treat it with a rust inhibitor. You may also need a bit of filler in there...

    alxe stands

You can put them anywhere that is structually solid under your car, for example cross members. Just make sure its stable before you crawl under it!! For safety I always leave the jack up as a back up.

    coolant temp

I agree. Especially on startups where the mixture would need to be much richer (similar to a choke on carbed up cars!). If fcuked your car could be running permenantley rich or much worse lean!!

    Oil question

GR Id stick the best oil in you can afford. Synthetic stuffs the best such as Mobil 1 but it pretty expensive ( i think about 45 quid). Synthetic has the best characterists of any oils as they work well at both low and high temperatures. If you dont do many miles then youd probably get away...

    Oil question

My cars has just done 3 thou, im gonna change the oil at 6,000 as I dont fancy leaving it to 12,000 (dont care how good Renault say their engines are). Probably put some decent semi-synthetic stuff in and then get it changed at 12,000 by Renault to get me book stamped.

Can NOT thrashing your 172 hurt it

Dont know whether anyone else feels the same but the more I use the car the slower it seems to get! When I take other people in it they say it is well rapid! Probably because Im use to it!!! Time to get modding methinks!

Can NOT thrashing your 172 hurt it

I doubt driving conservatively for a while will hurt your car. Taking it up to the redline all the while is likeky to put more stress on your engine! The odd thrash here and there should blow away any crap that builds up in the cylinder head/injectors, etc!;)

    Ticket help

If I was your friend Id hold on a few weeks and see what happens, ie see if they get another letter. All you have to say is that you didnt recieve the first one. If theyve waited 3 months to dish out the serving letter then another month isnt going to matter!!!;)

Anyone else tried their ABS in the snow

If your on snow/ice and your ABS kicks in it is best to treat it like a car without ABS. Just take your foot off the brake and keep applying gently, dont press it too hard. Mine locked up this morning and it worked a treat! Not as good as on conventional brakes but you cant have the best of...

    Ghost Wipers

Sounds like it might be a dodgy earth. Possibly some damp getting into the cicuit somewhere and shorting, causing the wipers to come on.

Bent Jacking Point on Mk2 172

Hello all, ive had my 172 since september. I regularly clean the front of the alloys but thought Id also take them off to clean the backs. I usually use a trolley jack to jack up my cars but in this case it wouldnt go under the car. I got the scissor jack out for the first time and...
