Hi Tutuur,
It'll be the 10th anniversary of the RTOC's national day, the club has been going since the early 1990's :) Yes I should be there, and hopefully lots of other interesting stuff that's been built of late :)
Yeah but RTOC has got wise to my psuedo-techno babble so I'm chancing my hand on here :D No I think a small proportion of Cliosport are comming round to the idea that sometimes it's possible to do cool stuff without a big name tuner holding your hand and so it's nice just to be involved...
It's 100% stable so I'm not too worried. There are safety precautions, the ECU has a feed from the wideband controller. Voltage to the ECU is fine and I've used the supplied dead time chart to configure that. The 68% might actually incorporate dead time, I hadn't thought of that until just now...
Quite possibly could be any or several of those things but I'll worry more when I'm at 80% :) The rail is 17mm bore and is fed from either end by an 044. Return is in the center. Pressure is measured at the regulator body, so the return not the feed. I think it must be a current thing. I can set...
Hi Andy, would you believe that it's using 68% of the new injectors, which sounds like an unbelievable number I know. It doesn't really compute, they claim they are 2200cc, I can only conclude the injectors don't respond like I'm expecting them to respond. Logs show fuel pressure is good (3...
I broke the flywheel bolts part way through 4th gear, but they were longer versions to accomodate the spacer, 12.9 though. I think the standard ones will be fine :)
Jaff, if the flywheels come out the way I want them you'll not need to do anything to the crank. You'll be able to re use the standard 9mm bolts.
Hydro clutch just takes a bit of mechanical nouse! The simplest way is to use an 0.75 (willwood, girling, whatever) master cylinder. You can...
Hi Tutuur,
Of course, I forgot that you were a fellow R5 owner !
It is interesting to hear you are using RS hubs. I am just undertaking the upgrade to RS hubs and RS outer CV's. Interestingly the hubs almost fit right on, with only a few small modifications to make. Unfortunately I have...
Hi Tutuur,
Yes that's the idea. I'd still recommend upgrading to 10mm flywheel bolts, I could sheer the M9's with only 450hp. But I dare say they will be fine for most jobs. The flywheel should be able to accept standard 9mm Renault bolts.
I've spoken to them today about the possibility...
A short update for you guys.
I've started talking to 2 places about having the flywheels done on CNC to my specification. It might save time in obtaining and machining them and may (hopefully) make things a little cheaper too.
There have been a couple of interested parties so far, thankyou to...
Yes thats right Tutuur, I was just keeping it brief.
Driveshaft lengths well need specifying (easy enough to measure one the gearbox is installed - shafts can be done last)
Flywheel threads in crank need re tapping to M10x1.25.
Chris
Thanks for the interest guys. I don't ever expect that there will be a big demand for this conversion but as more and more people push the limits with their tune they will need to re consider their choice of gearbox !
As a guide, for a one off price I could offer the following for 1k:
Block to...
Hi Guys
6sp 02M is the way to go for really big power. The 5sp 02J is a good unit too, vastly stronger than the JC but with less than fantastic synchomesh. I had several incarnations of 02J in my car and all were horribly slow to shift at high rpm. 02M is a lot better but still not as good as...
I think more people should look at fitting the ND0 instead of the VW gearbox. I know SteveH is on with it for his turbocharged application. It's sometimes nice to keep it all the same make but more than that you wont have to worry about a custom flywheel. Perhaps they won't be as strong as...
I don't know how that gearbox will land in anything other than an R5, but I suspect you'll have the same issues I did. Basically, the gearbox is big, so big that it wants to sit on the steering rack and subframe if the engine isn't tilted forward. I managed to keep the front mounting points...
Jaffman, ah well that is because the VW flywheels have a large minus offset compared with the renault flywheel, so that in itself makes up for most of the difference you've noted. The actually crank spacer is more to adapt the hub size to keep it all concentric. It's not that thick. You...
Hi Fred, cheers, no VVT on my engine. Any and all unneccesary things have been removed in favour of reliability. Yes, it's a machined exhaust pulley. I'd like to swap to a pair of lighter megane 225 pulleys when I find a pair and have the time to swap them.
Yes, it's road legal and often gets...
Hi Kev, I was meaning the save video too. It's shiney because of the glue on track. If it wasn't for that I'd still be spinning in 4th :)
I can definately recommend the gearbox swap for those who are breaking JC5's. The added bonus is you can use a much bigger 240mm VW/Audi clutch, which...
No that was quite a dry day, the officials would not allow a full-slick car to run with even the smallest amount of damp. The wheel spin is just my wastegate not being able to control the boost in early gears, so just too much power to the wheels. The new twin wastegates are much better, I need...
Ah but I have no interest in 4wd! I have an unhealthy obsession with FWD drag racing and its classes around the world. I sold my old Rear engined Renault 5 with RWD to go back to FWD. Yes, I'm weird like that. Sometimes it's about competing, not just going fast.
I'm glad you all like the...
They are correct I'm afraid. You have to consider only the aperture at the end of the injector, or nozzle, whatever you want to call it. The pressure differential across that aperture and it's size is what is going to dictate flow. Sure, the fuel inlet is much bigger, but then the fuel...
Hi Chris
Not often I look in on here but saw the new look forum and decided to have a browse.
The TO4E you have is a copy, it'll most likely be a 50trim TO4E compressor with an 0.63ar T3 turbine. That's a 300hp+ turbo. If your realistic sights were not set that high then you really aught...
With 2 cams you have the option of only fitting the lairy inlet if you so decided ;) But as andy says 110deg as a minimum I think, you might find it responds better at higher boost if you spread them further still.
Cheers David, I was looking on in envy all those years ago. This one's about 10 years in the making, ofcourse only the later few years spent with the 16v :)
Ash, I don't know buddy, but as long as I go quicker than the last outing I'm always happy. The bog is just a lack of boost by the way...
