Well I can't really call it a road car anymore because there's 1 seat, no interior or any other luxuries but it's drivable on the road and it's always tax, tested and insured since some of the competitions I run in require it. I drive it to and from events in the summer :)
It'll be in the 2's ;) Last year I was managing high 2's with low 1.7 60 foot times. those 60 foot's on sunday were 1.6's. of course, that's full on drag tyres on a glued track! I'd be lucky to drop into 4s with the R888 road tyres!
Here was another run I did in ESC qualifying while setting the car up. Slightly slower ET because of a bog in 2nd gear but 144mph terminal speed.

Thanks for the words guys, very kind.
I don't have a hand in Nocturnal Developments these days, mechanical work was starting to drive me a bit loopy. I started a small business dealing with Standalone EFI, installation and specialist mapping - http://www.efi-parts.co.uk
As andy says, no...
as the article says: "if only" :) It's all custom, made by myself with a flywheel hub adaptor machined by a fellow renault nut (he lives amongst you ;) ) It's a pretty simple setup really, although accuracy is important.
it was a good day, glad the clio guys enjoyed it asmuch as us R5 lot.
re the figures, I hear that motorscope in the past has had a bit of a reputation for funny numbers. they have a new system that looks to be operated much better than their last. I think a couple of the numbers are a bit...
That would be me :) At the last calc the engine made something like 350hp, the gearbox started to wine worse after each santa pod visit. I finally managed an 11.27 @ 127mph, and infact the gearbox still worked OK allbeit a bit noisey, but out mapping with 2 bar boost some weeks later finally...
nope, just a hobby here. I ran a small tuning place with a friend for a few years called Nocturnal Developments, we built a few interesting cars and tuned lots lots more, but that was stressfull, it had to stop :)
here is the crowd view of that run, btw

and the 1st run of the day with launch control switched on. I had horrible missfires after half track though

thanks for the comments guys, makes it kinda worthwhile!
for anyone who cares here is a brief spec of my homebuilt, and home tuned engine:
Clio 172 block and cylinder head,
83.5mm crank (clio 16v, volvo 480, etc),
Standard 172 pistons (bet you didn't think they were this touch eh ?),
172...
As said you will reach the limit of those small injectors pretty quickly, at a guess no more than 240hp, even that will be well past 80% duty. But ofcourse, I don't know anything about your turbo spec of your power goal. Scoff.
I can't comment on the suitability of the OMP but I have a 4 paddle AP 215mm plate in my 172 turbo engine, I've maxed out 500cc injectors at 1.6bar of boost, it makes about 280lb or torque and 350hp, the clutch does not slip. I've used 4 paddle plates in different engines for years, they've...
its actually got good manners on the road, the map is quite nice at low rpms and the cams are standard 172 items so its pretty smooth at all rpm's. I recently did a drive across the welsh back roads with RTOC, did about 200 miles in it round the twisties, great fun!!
funny, it passed just fine last month :) Ok, not with those front tyres, and maybe it had the front bumper fitted ;)
the car is 100% road legal, looks oddly. rough in that 1st picture, its actually in pretty good shape.
the tyres are FWD M+H drag tyres, they're about as good as it gets for...
'me and scoff did some mapping' ...
yeah ;) what actually happened was scoff swore several times with dismay at the original map (sub 100kpa, anyway) then re-wrote it, gave it a new start-fuel map and et voila, the car starts and runs as it should *lol*
looking forward to testing it on boost :)
I'm sorry for airing my opinion, I think I'm likely to get nowhere with it so I'll retire from the conversation after these words.
The inescapable truth is that you certainly had more than 129hp to make an 89mph pass on the drag strip, unless you car is very light weight. I really do not...
no no really, trap speed is a pretty constant thing, trust me. As I say, shifting makes not alot of difference. Again, tyre type from hard road tyres to full on low-pressure drag tyres makes maybe a few MPH difference max. if not trust me then speak to other experienced racers please :)
but...
agreed, but perhaps not to the extent of 129hp. 89mph trap indicates to me that he had more power than that. Any seasoned drag racer will usually be able to estimate wheel HP from a vehicle weight and trap, btw :) Its a topic I'm very much interested in.
unless you drive like miss daisy shifts don't make alot of difference either, they make more difference to ET. trust me please, I've been drag racing for a long time ;)
again, look at the other people's trap speeds, forget their ET's. ET's are about grip and driver ability. Trap speed is...
Rolling roads are notoriously innacurate things guys, but agreed, thats a big drop. If you really have regained 40hp then you'll certainly feel it.
When you did your 16.1 SQM, what was your trap speed ? Trap speed and vehicle weight will tell you how much power you have at the wheels, often...
Hi Guys
I'd like to find cam profile data for clio 172, 182 and 197, searching the web has yeilded very little.
As an aside does anyone have any pointers to online catalogues listing profiles for the f4r ? I already have catcam's catalogue :)
Thanks, Chris
Re: 70% complete 172RWD!
cool, this is all bringing back memories of mine.
one thing, what are you bolting the front hubs/bearings up with ? ofcourse if they have no driveshafts through them the wheels will want to fall off. I seperated some outer's from old driveshafts and bolted just...
the jc5 is definatly not that tough really, nor are any of the jb3 range. the shorter jb5's are even weaker.
I had experience with a 2L high-boosted turbo engine, it broke 3 gearboxes in all, it made alot of torque. for this reason I fitted the shorter 83.5mm crank to my 172 turbo...
