Sorted this all out after a bit of a rethink.
As the existing grommet is quite long the radiator fan wires are well protected even if I remove the grommet, ie have it not seated in the hole. Then fed the 2 battery wires through and used a cut up piece of fuel hose cable tied around the cables...
Currenlty have my fan controller wires going through that one - but I have managed to put them through the original hole in the grommet (which was a right mission putting two wires in!) and there is no room for two 16awg wires in it as well! If I can find something that will work as a grommet so...
The only tech thing I’ve wanted to do is make a data logging thing for track days out of a Raspberry Pi. So GPS and accelerometer kind of thing then improve my python script I currently use.
My parents have never understood any of my jobs. First was a “Radiographic Hydrodynamics Physicist” and now I’m a “Software Engineer”. Annoys my brother as he is a design engineer and does actual engineering and doesn’t think I am a proper engineer. But the at home tech has skipped me, I don’t...
Yeah a Ph1 172. I’ll go and try find that at some point this week. I really don’t want to be drilling holes so this would be good if there is another one to the bonnet release one.
I want to run a battery isolator on the dash board so need to run some wires from the engine bay to the inside. I’m already using the hole by the bonnet release for my external radiator fan switch (which appears to be the first place most suggest plus I don’t think it’s big enough).
Before I...
Was a good morning out on track, hope I didn’t get in too many people’s way!
Had to leave at lunch as have friends coming over soon for dinner. Next year I’ll plan to be there all day and for the evening.
Need to go past Bangor to get there anyway, hoping I don’t go through a tank and a 25ltr Jerry can in half a day on track to need topping up mid session!
All done and ready for tomorrow. Let’s hope the Tesco fuel station in Bangor has fuel as the half tank that is currently in it won’t last. Everything just about fits in the boot.
Hoping for sunny weather so I can go topless
GoPro fitted this time with a tether! Not falling for that again
I think they are a similar price from memory. I know I paid £1150-ish for a set of BC’s on my Z3 fully fitted and set up and it was a similar price for the B14’s from the same garage.
I’ve got Bilstein B14’s on mine. They are good and do the job well for what I use my car for. But if I were to do it again I’d go for BC Racing coil overs. Had them on my old Ph1 and just had a set fitted to my Z3 and they just feel a lot better.
Yes and no. It’s a nice road and it used to be a 60mph limit. But it’s very biker heavy at times and there are sheep that wonder on the top of the hill and into the road. But it’s a better drive than going though Coedpoeth if you want to do a nice route. Does that make sense?! If you have the...
If I’ve got your map right you are heading over the Horse Shoe Pass at Llangollen (again a 40mph zone which can have cameras on) and into Ruthin. The Nant Y Garth into Ruthin is very good. But continue to Denbigh and head onto the A453 through Groes to Blychau (start of this will be an average...
Small progress on this today.
Wrapped some of the wires up for the injectors to tidy it up a bit. This was because I had to move them when fitting the ITBs so more of the wire was outside that little casing. Also wrapped the wires for my radiator fan switch too. Just neatens it up a bit
Made...
Ops testing is fun though….haha.
Or what I’ve seen is people do code, get it reviewed, I’ve deployed it to a test environment and a smoke test, doesn’t work then I debug it to an error where it would never have compiled so how that dev decided “yep that will do” without even running their code...
I’ve also go a passenger side drive shaft that came out of my Ph1 172 you are welcome to have. It might have a small knick in the CV gaiter that I glued up to get it to pass an MoT test so it might have some wear in the CV joint but might be a good back up? I can’t remember why I replaced it...
Pricey but amazing, will need to also get a phone specific cradle to screw to this which they also do

I've got one on my E34, the girlfriend has one in her Focus and I had one in my old Octavia and they are perfect. No damage to the car...
