    Cold weather gear changes

Hi all, Around this time of year we get quite a few questions about experiencing difficult gearshifts in cold weather, so we thought you might find this useful. Using the incorrect viscosity gear oil in your car can make gear changes very difficult when the gearbox, and oil are cold. This is...

    Castrol

Yeah, but in a car a few extra horses is a bonus. In seriousness, there is nothing the matter with Castrol, other than being a bit expensive and they don't really make as full a range as some companies. If you're looking at oil for a Clio, you want a 5w-40 and the Castrol Edge 5w-40 is...

Gearbox Oil 80w90 Can I use it?

Also, 80w is not as fluid at cold temps as 75w, so in the cold winter months you may find the gearshift baulky untill the box warms up. Cheers Guy

    Gearbox oil

We tend to recommend this one from Fuchs http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-981-fuchs-titan-sintofluid-sae-75w-80-synthetic-manual-transmission-fluid.aspx Does not need changing very often, my info says it should be checked every 20,000km or 24months. Cheers Guy

    What oil for a 2005 182??

Hi Alex I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and here are the ones that we sell. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Fuchs GT1...

    Oil advice and recommendations here

Hi folks, With winter here and plenty of cold starts, perhaps it's time to consider changing the oil that you use in your car. Does your antifreeze need changing? Is your gearshift okay when cold? Do you need something to protect your car from the weather? Let us know if you need any...

Oil - You get what you pay for!

Saying it's not under warranty, go for an ester based 5w-40 like the Fuchs Pro S, Millers CFS, Redline, Gulf Competition or Motul 300V. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx Don't put them in under warranty, Renault have been getting tight on warranty claims and people have reported that...

Sorry, should have clicked the link. Yes, the Supersyn is fine, or the Fuchs GT1 is a slightly better option for a similar price.

Oil - You get what you pay for!

Yes, that is a temporary offer, it's usually about £40-45 for 5L. The Gulf is a proper top end oil, we've had sponsored cars using it for 24 hour racing and lots of others using it for road and track use in modified and standard cars and we've had no problems with it. Cheers Tim

Oil - You get what you pay for!

Hi Different oils can make an engine run quieter for a couple of reasons. First of all is the basestock, group III and group V oils are good at helping cars run quieter, but group IV aren't so good at absorbing sound...

Oil - You get what you pay for!

It's a group III (hydrocracked oil), although I think there is a small amount of PAO synthetic as well. You shouldn't notice any real difference between that another group 3 or group 4 oil, but you might find the engine is a bit louder compared to a group 5 oil like the Pro S. Cheers Tim

    The truth about transmission oil?

Plenty of people are using the Fuchs Sintofluid (75w-80, GL5) in Clio, Megane, Peugeot and Citroen gearboxes without any issues at all. Technically, a GL5 oil should be backwards compatible with a GL4 application, but people often have concerns due to brass synchros. Quality GL5 oils are made...

    The truth about transmission oil?

Oil - You get what you pay for!

The truth is, from what we've heard it's not very popular (except in RenaultSport Clios) and we've got other oils we consider better, plus limited space in the warehouse. There's no other oils we want from Elf and we wouldn't take on a brand just to sell one of their oils
