I'm still on 7. When the first bugs were announced I decided to wait for 8.1. Now I'm wondering if it's worth changing as I've no issues with 7 and hate change.
What are peoples favourite features of 8 over 7?
With regards to the knock when braking - it may be worth checking your caliper bolts are torqued up. I've known cars to do similar in the past and when tightened and thread locked, it's sorted it.
I had some tyres that were perished many years ago. Carried on driving the car thinking it would be fine, until one blew out at speed on the motorway one day.
If it's over 12 it's highly likely your fault is elsewhere. Giving the starter a few whacks is a good shout.
For what it's worth. I was trying to get a car started this weekend which I'd never had running before. Put a battery on showing low high 10's/ low 11's and the starter was very very...
My post wasn't actually very clear, mine did exactly the same. I'd started it to move it a very short distance, and thus not charged it up at all, and then when I went to move it back after getting something out of the garage, it wouldn't start and the battery was goosed.
You may be able to...

I must say I enjoyed reading through your thread. You appear to have a good 'can do' attitude.
MOT testers can't start removing stuff, so to cover themselves they will state what's in the way.
Take side skirts for example. Likely to hide rot so they will poke at what they can but if they feel there's probably something under there, they will note it.
Mine was about as low as your pic and it would rub the arch liner occasionally but not the bracket from what I remember. It was a long time ago so I may have bent the bracket out of the way.
Perhaps that's a clause that a few insurance companies hold with Copart?
Just thinking out loud, but I'm sure I heard somewhere that if they pay out for the car, it's no longer your property to demand to purchase so they can sell it to copart/do as they see fit.
Usually when you can buy them...
