I had similar issues with my Canon 50mm 1.4.
Took it to Canon service and had it repaired, but it cost about 60 quid.
Not sure it is worth it on a 50mm 1.8.
Maybe get a lightly used replacement 1.8 instead?
I sold my RB182 for 3.5k almost 2 years ago now (August 2010!)
It was on 80k, belts done, Janspeed exhaust etc.
It was a bit rough around the edges, but it makes me sure it's possible to get a good 182 in a non-catwalk colour for 3k now!
I'd be looking at a Canon as well.
Entry level, an 1100D would be very good indeed.
MPB Cameras do new and used ones and have plenty of lightly used 1100Ds for under 200 quid at the moment.
Have to agree, Nick.
Although I guess photography as a hobby is a kind of art, so whatever you want to create is up to you.
If you like 'em, then all the better :)
Really nice stuff, Piers.
I like the pink lights reflected in the swimming pool and also the people shots.
I agree with what you've said about the 18-55 lens as well, you can't always get everything you want in the shot!
I like those, good efforts in fully manual.
A photo I posted on here a while ago got picked up by Buzzfeed which according to the mate who found it is quite a good thing!

Not sure how the Tamron 18-270 compares pricewise with the Canon 55-250, but I've had great use out of a borrowed 55-250 recently and they aren't that expensive. Bit restricted at the bottom end of the range, but it depends how close you go to things really!
Like the dog shot, Scott.
Great looking 350Z posted above as well, very vibrant colours in the photos.
Martin, the long exposure is amazing and what a fantastic sky!
Here is another of mine from my last night out playing on a rooftop!

I'd probably go with about 1000 quids worth of fuel plus Nurburgring card, tent and ferry costs plus a few beers!
I'm not sure that counts as spending it on the car though ;)
I'd be interested to know the settings you used for that one, Brazo.
I find that I have lots of blown highlights in my night shots, even on a 2 second exposure.
Haven't tried HDR on night shots, but I feel like it would really help in that situation.
I can understand the skill that goes into it and why some people like HDR photos, but I'm not a fan at all.
A friend I shoot with out here seems to HDR virtually every night shot whereas I go for less editing, horses for courses I guess, but I think the HDR he uses can often look over-cooked...
Plenty of interesting questions here.
Personally, I'd agree with the theory that a lens from 18-200 or even 250 is probably going to be compromised, especially towards the 18 end of the scale.
I have used a friend's 55-250 on my 550D and found it to be really sharp, good build quality and...
