How much RAM does your lappy have and what operating system are you using? If its not blessed with large amounts of RAM and running Vista your OS might be using a lot of space as virtual memory, that said 100mb every 10 seconds sounds excessive. Is the drive near capacity? if it is your OS could...
Depends how tight her fillings are, yes the Trophy is a great drive and no mistake but it's harsh - very harsh, to be fair you notice it far less when driving than as a passenger (the missus hates it - bummer) but once she drove it she loved it.

TBH that sounds more like a distinct lack of oil to me, but Im no expert so who knows.
V power all the time for me, for a difference of about £4 a fill its worth it, that said with the low mileage I do I only fill up about every 3 weeks.

Have you looked at windows defender (or whatever its called in Vista), that might need to allow other networked machines access. Same with whatever firewall you are using under xp, with zone alarm I have to set up an ip range to allow machines access.
