If your getting that much blow by, might want to get a compression and leak down test, and get a specialist to recheck the timing and ensure its dialed it.

Run an oil catch tank, does your car produce any blow by, check you intake. Also throw out the aircon, a/c systems place a not insignificant amount of drag on the engine, you don't need it anyway ;)

Whats the best price on a Nikon D5500 body only? These use one of the best/top of the range sensors in the category on the market, couple this with a 50mm 1.8 G and your set. A 50mm will be good for portraits.

Yep highly rate the Nikon d3300. Better sensor with greater dynamic range than the equivalent canon. Thus great setup for what you have in mind. Good price too.
