Tbh, flat-out an r26 isn't that much quicker than a 200. But the extra midrange means that getting past dawdlers is much easier, and the diff adds a dimension that the 200 can't touch. Owned both, I remember the r26 fondly. I barely remember the 200. I've been keeping an eye out for a late 5dr...

I don't agree. The design wasn't modern, but it outperforms the S8 that I had. Better battery life as well.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but what about the later a3? The 3.2 is a good option for that budget. And they're much better to drive than the older s3 imo. The mk5 golf platform is a much better starting point.
