Hi Guys,
I've got two heads here, a Ph1 172 with the big exhaust ports and a head from a 172 cup with the smaller ports. Is there any real advantage in torque or HP to using the Ph1 cylinder head?
Engine will be fitted with Cat Cam 421's and Jenvey ITB's.
Regards,
Mike
Hi Guys,
Who does dog gear kits for the JC5, im pretty sure Gripper do, Sadev did but discontinued, Samsonas did but cant find it on there site anymore.
Does anyone have experience of the Gripper kits, are they reliable, how much power are you running etc?
Any info would be greatly...
Hope you wont be taking you car back to that garage again! The earth goes on that bolt in the top right hand corner btw, I'm guessing that's where you put it anyway.
They squeal, that's it end of. Nothing you can do about it, mine did get a bit better after a good beating on a trackday but you will never get them to act like road pads.
I wouldn't bother with any type of brake grease as it does nothing with them.
Civic cup, EP3 a pretty much bullet proof when relatively standard. Will get to spend more money on racing and test days as the car wont be braking all the time. EP3 is the most drive orientated car out of all of them.
Not much of an update but I've had the Enkei's painted in BMW Sparkling Graphite, took it to a track day last month at Nantes in France. Car was going really well until the gearbox started sounding quite unhappy, looks like one of the bearings is on the way out so that will be out for a rebuild...
I don't find mine soft at all if anything the front springs are too hard comparative to the rears. I bought mine as a stop gap before getting some Reigers but I'm so impressed with them for the money I cant justify buying the Reigers until these start giving me trouble. 4 years in and no...
After spending a fortune on a set of Thermo formed, anti scratch blah blah windows from P4P I would say don't bother unless you really are trying to gain 100th's on a lap. The weight saving really isn't that significant in the grand scheme of things, over fuelling your car will add more weight tbh..
You shouldn't really use normal gear oil with a plate LSD as it can damage the friction plates.
This stuff is great, use it in my Sadev http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-68901-fuchs-titan-race-syn-5-75w-90-fully-synthetic-gear-oil-was-silkolene-syn-5-75w-90.aspx
Haha gotta love the hate for the wheels, I also have some equally as horrible 17" BBS RS replicas for it.
Luckily I live In Jersey so there isn't to many of these about!
Both cars have their strengths that's for sure, I have a 200hp sequential boxed Clio so we will see how well the Civic fairs up against it next year when I hill climb it. The civic has roughly 175 lb/ft of torque which is more than most 172's. The extra torque will help up hill whether that car...
In stock form I can imagine they feel quite gutless but this really doesn't. I think the shorter final drive helps though.
It's all about power to weight really. If your Clio has had any weight removed from it and the civic hasn't then with 195hp your power to weight ratio is going to be far...
Haha I was actually considering doing a K20 swap on my rally car and binning off the F4R/sequential box in the quest of big power with a 6 speed dog box. Would be lower running costs than a high power F4R with a sequential but equally as fast if not faster.
Yeah I think it kicks in at around 4.5k now.
I don't know if it's just me but I feels massive compared to the Clio. But if you loll at the dimensions it's not a whole lot bigger.. I'm thinking it may just be an illusion due to the big windscreen?
It made just under 260hp on the rollers, it certainly feels pokey! I thought it would feel quite flat down low but tbh with the lowered final drive it pulls just as well as my 172 off the bottom.
Yeah in a different offset they would look better for sure. If I'd bought them new and they came down looking like that I'd have been pissed! got the car for a decent price so doesn't bother me to much.
Believe it or not they are nearly 1k a set! Enkei RPF1's.. They will just be track/hill climb wheels. Im going to get some Enkei Evo 8 wheels for the road.
Hi Guys,
I recently picked up this EP3 after wanting one for years! was an itch I had to scratch. After being in several Clio sports over the past 3-4 years it makes a nice change.
It has a fairly good spec list, couple of jobs I need to sort on it like replace the flexi on the manifold and...
Hi guys,
Does anyone know whether the steering rack on a 172 is offset from the centre line of the car? when doing the tracking on all of my 172's I have always had unequal length threads on the track rods and more lock one way than the other.
I have measure up a 172 rack off the car and it...
The one I fitted to my car was from a Clio 200, we used the VIN number off one in the show room to order it. I'm pretty sure that the 197/200 cylinders are the same though, you may have to adjust the push rod inside the servo to take up the slack in the peddle as well.
Exactly my point, its all about interpretation. Best bet is to ring the MSA, if they say its legal ask them to put it in writing.. That way no one can ever dispute it!
