Yep that's what I use, I run Associate-o-Matic frontend mixed in with Wordpress for site news (auto-posted), pages etc. And yep exactly right with bitcoins, point some software at a remote host and let it run away!

Got a couple of sites up, doing a similar thing but through affiliate networking rather than targeted ads, they do ok! I mine bitcoins/litecoins too, technically free money (ignoring power costs).
