The bad economy will mostly be caused by coold start enrichment. If your doing lots of short trips it will hit your average MPG hard.

Valvers are awesome. Jacked mine on the dogbone/subframe mount before without issue, also other points toward the back of the subframe.

Check this looks a hard cambelt job to me, Worse still, Imagine if you had thermostat failure, which is not uncommon, and had to dig through all 18 (ish!) belts to find it!!
