Yes definitely. Changing cats with a 172 manifold is a b1tch, but it's easy with a 182 mani.
It is possible to bodge up an MOT cat from the old 172 downpipe/catpipe (same thing)
Fair enough. I agree, the chances of major fail are reduced. But still, it's that rotary pot that people want ;)
I should write a book or something. Gimmick engineering....for the people.
lol!
We did. That we did ;)
I was very close to going elsewhere on management, and after putting some real thought into it, I like everyone else, came to the conclusion that perhaps multiple maps is a feature too far. So I went with emerald for different reasons.
But I stand by what I said. It's a...
and correct me if i'm wrong, an insurance work around....... hear me out
Low boost map -> insure @ that bhp
Technically your insured until you flick the switch, which is effectively an extra modification.
Agreed, a grey area, but a nice thought.
ah tech debates. :coffee:
Multiple switchable maps is one of the strongest marketing points for emerald. If I were developing a system, I would put it in, not because I thought it necessary, but because people like the idea.
I confess I like the idea and the potential for extra freedom.

I wrote something at the bottom of my guide. Sadly I did a decat at the same time so couldn't really comment on the 182 manifold alone.
It's a mod i'd only recommend if you can do the work yourself, and a decat is likely to be more benificial.
this is very common on MK1s too. It's just poor mount design by renualt. The parts fatigue until failure, whiteley has had it recently too.
The only thing to do is replace with new
I'd like to know also.
Plus, Midge, why are you bothering? The whole Idea of 172 widetrack is surely just for the cheap brake upgrade? The extra track is pretty darn small, and then isnt there a slight front bumper scrubbage?
they are very weak things. iirc you could start messing around with adjustment, but it's best off to replace as it could (probably will be) be beyond repair.
I have to agree with danny. It's the extra safety regulations, the extra emissions regulations, this means more weight, more complication, less fun.
The F4R is a better engine though IMO. F7s are just HUGE.
But the MK1 is just a superior way to travel at speed
Best bet is to speak to the cliospares people on here, what's the guys name? someone link it :D
If you do go to renault, sideways danny told me that they have improved the driveshaft boot clips as they were having issues. So a renalt part would be better.
