The 1000D does have liveview. From the Canon site. I'd probably just go for the 500D over the 550D if the savings warranted it.

I got my projector out of a skip. Somebody had deemed it to be faulty but it works just fine, albeit with a bit of a noisy fan. I actually prefer the TV though as it's brighter and has a higher res than the bin projector.

Windows 7 comes with a handy built in functionality that makes an image of your OS install. Save that before you start clowning around with the rest and everything goes back to minty fresh in a couple of clicks.
