Sounds really odd mate. I have the Samsung screen one model down from yours running off a 6950 and don't have any issues. I'm only using the cable that came with the monitor and the adaptor from the grfx card. Works sweet as a nut.
I can only comment on the kit lens (18-55) which is actually quite useful. I use a 600D which is my first DSLR and love it if I'm honest. I'm no expert but just do lots of research first and even pop in to Jessops to try a few cameras out.
Funnily enough, one of my closest friends got married in March and she asked me to be their unofficial wedding photographer. Loved the experience and they actually prefered my pics to the official ones. Here's their fav http://www.photosbyjay.co.uk/fayeandben/h13b6532f#h13b6532f
Not sure if it's of interest, but I use a lastolite ezybox and honeycomb mesh that gives a more direct light. Great quality stuff and provide a good light source with my canon 430ii speed light.
I use dropbox and skydrive. Just got the 25GB free upgrade on skydrive, but my only complaint would be that the "Live Mesh" client only gives you 5GB space, not the full 25GB available on skydrive.
Came across this last night, so thought I'd post it up for anyone else interetsed.

It basically shows you how different lights / positions can influence portrait type shots. Seems fairly interesting:)
Hi mate, looks good for a first effort. My main comments are;
1. I don't think the blue background is very punchy. Look at other sites to see what looks good to you and utilise the same colours
2. Get some more professional photos done of the building work. The pics used don't do their work...
Well I did my first wedding at the weekend for a close friend. I was their "unofficial photographer", but I have to say what an experience and was totally shattered at the end of the day. Since then, I've already had someone ask me if I'd be interested in doing their's, so maybe its a start of...
Would love to hear how u get on with the new lens!
Im at a friends wedding this coming Saturday and they've asked me to be their unofficial photographer, so very excited:)
