Flippin offsets!
Ive seen a set of 16" wheels I want on my Mk1 172 (which the offset is 43). The shop have come back to me and said that the wheel manufacturer can only do an offset of 38. Now will this screw up my handling? Has anyone tried wheels that stick out futher than the originals...
ok, so Im going to try Johns 5mm spacers and see how it goes. If handling screws up, Ill put the original wheels back on. Will report back after I give it a good thrashing!.....
Slugger: my 172 is 2 and a half years old now! Getting on a bit! The 16v is going in for a handbrake cable and the coilovers next week. Should be all finished by then (well roadworthy at least!)
Mat: Not sure I can wait till then! It seems nearly everyone is going on the first date?
yep, mk1 means first clio shape. I will also be double checking the mats between mk1 and mk2 172s to check they are the same, if not, I will submit templates for the mk1 172.
Cheers Lars, I checked my spare last night, and as you say, the offset on a Mk1 172 is 43. As the 16v has an offset of 36, assuming the phase 1 16v wheels are 7" wide as well, the wheel will sit in the arch 7mm closer to the body. Is it worth trying a 5mm spacer? Or just not bothering with...
