I would just get the RSTuner from fastchip as the k-tec one is a shocking price for the same thing.. Also the RSTuner has loads of other usable things on it and can buy add ons for airbag control etc.

5mm allen key
flat head screwdriver
10mm spanner
13mm socket with 250mm extension bar
torx bit set

If no joy then a clutch change but these clutches are stiffish anyway but shouldnt be like you described.
Carb cleaner will destroy it as its too harsh. Proper cleaning kit is the best way to go about it. The K&N cleaning kit will work on it too cost is circa £14.
About 3mm in height is the only difference.
Any 172/182 and mk2 dci springs will fit.
182 cup front shocks also have a 60mm bolt spacing compared to the 54mm on non cup 182s and 172/172 cup.
