    172 Brakes

Need new front disks and pads for my phase 1 172 and am looking at getting DS2500 and brembo high carbon discs. I do a bit of sprinting so I can't have drilled or grooved disks. Are the brembo's and ds2500's going to be the best combo for daily driving with a few sprints / trackdays? And...

Yokohama Parada Spec-2 OR Toyo Proxes T1-R's?

Ive got the yokohama's, had them on the car for around 3 months and they seam fine. Only real issue is the rate of wear, done 3000miles including 3 sprints and the fronts are looking way passed their best, the tread around the main groove almost looks like its melted. As others have said the...

    Need help - Cat D

Cat D's not really a big problem will only be cosmetic, My old M3 was Cat D and I got it for atleast £2k less than other similar cars. I would say go for it if its 25% cheaper than similar cars or if you are thinking about keeping it for a long time as resale is always an issue.

That was me, First pratise in the wet was not good! But once it dried out went quite well. Only me and the arbath puntos in my class which were being run by arbath for the autocar journalists, managed 4th out of 5. Was quite happy with that as I'd not been to goodwood for years. Great...

    A yellow ph1 172??

I must confess I thought cat C ment it had structural damage and needed an inspection before it went back on the road and Cat D was effectively the unecconomical repair but would apear to have been wrong. I'd quite happily buy and use the car going by the advert and pictures trouble is always...

    Tyre Fitting!!!!!!

I don't think £40 too bad, at the end of the day they have overheads such as the building, staff, old tyre disposal, new valves etc. People supplying there own tyres means there's no proffit in the tyre supply so they need to make there money somewhere, how long did it take them? and hour or so?.

    why cant I find a tidy 172?

I looked at a few before finding a decent one. Paid £2350 for 66k mile sunflower ph1 it need 2 rear shocks but other than that it's not bad but it is 7 years old so has the odd small mark, the steering wheels seen better days and the wheels could do with a refurb so for £3k could be made into...

A few pics from the weekend - 172 sprinting

I've only had the car around a month or so but its quite often flying around the crowborough / uckfield and tunbridge wells areas. Lyddens a great circuit, not that fast but the change in levels makes it a challenge, the run up the hill can be a pain if you come out of the tight corner to...

    Big Engine Problems, need help!!!

How did you pay for the engine? I bought an engine fir my sisters fiesta, quite expencive, low millage from a breaker on credit card. When it turned out to have spun a shell prior to it being installed the breaker had to supply another engine then the cc paid for it to be fitted.

How much to spray a mk1 Wing?

Its pot luck to be honest, although some colours are easier than others. Its might be worth speaking to the bodyshop as they will have an idea of which colours are easiest to match. My best friend owns a bodyshop, a number of insurance companies will ask them not to blend the panels, but it...

    Toyo T1-R

205 GTI drivers used to do this all the time as 185/55/15's were a hell of a lot more expencive, I can't imagine it would cause any problems. Is the ABS comments due to differences in grip level from front to back, due to the wider tyres? I'm supprised that would make enough diffence to worry...

How much to spray a mk1 Wing?

Yes they will spray the door as well if you want it done well. trouble is you cannot 100% match the colour and if the new colour finishes on the edge of a panel its almost always very obvious blending through the door makes a much nicer job. Also think your estimates are quit low, I'd say...

what is so special about the trophy setup?

I went out in a trophy a few weeks ago and was very impressed, The suspension was idea for spirited driving on UK roads, which is what it was designed for at the end of the day. There was no point in it being any harder as it would have got to the point were it was bouncing off the pot holes and...
