Good work, its looking really good. Will look a lot better when the wheels are sorted but those stixkers on the grill ruin the whole car. Bit of a chavvy mod imo
Renault Wolverhampton sent me a replacement kit out in the post. They said my car lists 3 different belt kits which is what caused the problem.
My advice for fellow dci’ers is check if your alt belt is 5 or 6 rib before ordering to ensure you get the right kit.
They thought the tensioner would...
Great read this. Seems to be quite a lot of negativity around it and the price which comes across as jealousy. Just over 2k for a LY is a bargain! And no matter what you buy, you will have needed to do the majority of what you have done anyway!
Someone remind me how many LY are left on the...
Which one as they do different compounds by the looks of it.
Also what clay lube? I once tried with a quick detailer as i heard it was the same thing but it made a right mess!
Is it safe to machine without claying first? I have some iron remover stuff but nothing for tar. I have never machined before but will be using the dci as the test car.
I have only wver used the megs clay bar kit. I have everything ready to machine polish the car but no clay left so was wondering what people would recomend? Also the megs seems to be quite expensive so is there anything just as good for a better price?
Massively annoying mate! But glad its just the alt belt and not the cambelt as that would have been an even bigger pain!
Will ring them first thing tomorrow and hopefully get a replacement sent straight out issue free!
Mine has to come apart again too! Getting a chirp from the belt and after investigation, it appears i have been sent the wrong alternator belt kit! The old one was a 5rib and the new one is 6rib. When looking up the part number it shows it is for a k9k from a meganne 2008 onwards!
@gez 172...
I have the orange, white and black hex logic pads as i was told they are a good combination between a heavy cut, medium cut/polish and a finishing pad.
Are you claying the car before you polish?
Really straight forward mate! Once the timing tool pins are in place, you cant go wrong! Its just a case of tensioner off, belt off then put the new belt and tensioner back on. Just under 2 hours to do.
Cambelt day. Thanks to @geordie for coming and helping me with it (doing it)
I watched the youtube video quite a few times so managed to strip the bay down myself ready for Geordie to work his magic.
Both belts were cracked and look like they were probably well overdue the change.
Yea mate tbf they are cheap anyway arnt they. Thats the same reason i just bought new too.
Lol get the battery fitted. It will take 2 minutes!
I want to change the gearbox oil, but theres also a few boots that need sorting as the have split. One of the driveshaft boots has split and is...
If you need front discs and pads you can have my old ones if you want as they looked fine when taken off, just a bit old! I think the brakes just needed a good service and fluid flush but i had already bought new.
Not too bad, but thats a £210 saving at least if you do it yourself. Are they using genuine Renault parts? And is the alt belt just a belt change or tensioner too?
Which is the inlet part lol??
J pipe i cleaned a few weeks ago and want that bad at all. That didnt have any wet oil in it and just a thin coating of carbon.
The valve was moving freely as i checked that before putting it on. Massively annoying! I might have to buy another one, just to really rule out that this is a duff unit!
Been looking forward to this arriving as i really thought it would have solved the eml light!
Would rather just keep it standard. And would a blank now leave the eml light on permanently?
Yea, a bit of smoke doesnt worry me either. My old one did it and i had it a year. This does leave a little bit of white smoke if i boot it, can only tell when its dark though and theres headlights...
Thanks mate. How would you know if the turbo is starting to fail? What are the signs of that?
Could it make a difference that the egr valve was actually faulty? As in, it isnt just getting full of carbon / being oily thats the problem, the unit itself is broke as the eml light came back on even...
The new egr valve arrived today and i wanted to get it changed straight over and get the eml light off.
The old egr on the car was again covered in wet oil! The inside was more sutty, but still filled quite significantly considering it was just a few weeks ago when i cleaned it.
Any ideas what...
Id say maybe 1-2cm. I know, thats why im not 100% as i know they do sit higher anyway, but it just feels too much. I might just get them seapped anyway to be on the safe side.
Although the springs did both have different numbers pri ted on them so im still unsure! First 5 numbers where the same then the 2nd set of numbers were both different - assuming this bit might just have something to do with the batch they came from...
