Mikey V6
Spoke to my father in law last night who was the head chassis engineer on the mk1 V6. He thinks your car is probably a series 2 pre-production car (series one was the very rough prototypes which were probably scraped). From memory he said there may be some issues that are worth...

A couple of pictures of the underside of the MK1 V6. They are of the developement cars so they may differ slightly to the production item. Hope...
I will ask my father in law if he knows any of the cars history as he worked on the V6 as one of the project engineers during its development. He brought a couple home on test to show me before they were released. What colour is yours Mikey as this may help his memory.
Just about any engine conversion can be done to any car, Ive stuck a Vauxhall Xe in my mini and there are many Honda vtec ,Toyota ,Rover conversions even a front wheel drive Rover V8 in a mini so putting a 172 motor in a 16v shouldnt be too difficult.
As for the VVC on the 172, from what I...
My valver was the same, sat on 0 at tick over when warm but no oil light and gauge moved when you rev it. Changed sensors but no difference. In the end I took the motor out when the gearbox was on its last legs and rebuilt it. Crank and bearings showed signs of wear so ground crank and new...
Down and to the right. The sender to the left of the filter is the oil warning light switch(about £10), impossible to change unless you have a v.deep reach socket or take the oil cooler or power steering pump off. All you can see of the sender is a little brass bolt head with two(or three) wires...
Its on the front of the block just above the block/sump flange on the right hand side, the wiring plug is on the brace bare for the inlet manifold. You can get at it from underneath if you have the right open ended spanner. The sensor is about 150mm long and goes down into the sump. I think it...
Could be the clutch pedal that is the problem? If i remember correctly they are about £30 from Renault, bit fiddley to fit. I cant image thats its the clutch cable thats at fault. Hope you get it sorted.
Suppose what I was trying to say was it would take you less time to get to a certain speed so requiring less time under full throttle conditions and allowing more time on part throttle cruising. Depends how you drive though and very small amounts in economy terms. However tuning an engine for...
As you are making more power therefore you require less throttle to go the same speed so fuel consumption will not increase. As throttle bodies require a programmable ECU then the engine can be tuned for optium use of the fuel it uses - all is burnt.
If the mixture and timing is correct then...
Not too bad a job as long as you have the right tools. If I remember, headlight out, move wiring sheild from the chassis leg, this should give you access to the adjustable idler for the belt. You then need an allen head bit and short ratchet to undo it and a big spanner to adjust the belt (done...
Hi phil
I have recently bought a mk1 172 and am having the same problems as you, starts but doesnt always pick up the revs properly. I also have a slow idle speed of about 600rpm which seems rather slow to me. I have read somewhere that its down to the ecu mapping on the mk1 but im not...
Thanks for the quick reply Chris.
The diff nut is behind the drivers side driveshaft oil seal and requires about a 2" socket!. Luckly my mate with a garage machined down a socket to fit as you need a thin deep reach socket.
I will look out the receipt for the part number when I get home...
I am currently rebuilding the gearbox on my wifes Phase 1 16v and am at the stage where i need to torque up the following:
1. Diff retaining nut
2. Laygear retaining nut
3. Main gear cluster retaining bolt.
Does anyone have the correct torque settings for the above, the Haynes manual is...
Just had a quote for £380ish for a box from Renault for my wifes phase 1 16v today, just have to check the part numbers to be sure of price. I will strip the box down first to see if it is worth rebuilding myself.
I have managed to fit the XE into a standard length mini front end so Im sure the clio has bags of room in comparison;)

I paid about £2300 for a TB kit for a Vauxhall XE motor which included everything including wide range Lambda sensor. This was an off the shelf kit . If you bought the stuff separate I would think it will cost about £2000, its then just the time with a specialist to sort out the map. So a price...
If the car is standard at the moment I would suggest trying to solve the problem before doing any modifications. Give it a good service and check over. A power boost valve is only a way of increasing the base fuel pressure, if you have done nothing to the engine that requires more fuel then it...
Try panel wipe. Body shops use it to clean surfaces before spraying. Not very expensive for 5 litres(£10 ?). Remember to give it a polish afterwards as it will remove the existing wax
I dont know about the clio kit but I have bought a set for my Vauxhall 16v mini conversion. In total it costs me about £2200 which included everything including uprated fuel pump, wide range lambda sensor, ecu, new injectors, etc. I made my own exhaust manifold which saved alot of money but is...
Nic, I described it for the 16v so it will different on your engine. It should be an easy DIY job (explained in Haynes manual) but if you do not want to do it Im sure a garage wouldnt charge too much. 1hr labour + part + antifreeze approx £50?? (wild guess) Hope you get it sorted.
