TBH theres no definitive answer mate, i have had my 172 nearly a year without a problem, only general maintenence parts which are expected on a 9 year old car. At the other end of the scale some members on here have had an issue every month. Hit and miss really, so long as it has a good service...
I crashed on paradas, brilliant in the dry, careful driving needed in the wet. I currently use t1r on the fronts and i am very happy with them day to day use(wet and dry).
At a guess, check ht leads, coil pack and spark plugs. The cold start issue is common, i sorted my problem by running higher octane fuel (99 instead of 95).
Got chance to check this morning, on closer inspection the tensioner is fine, running straight etc, the 'tick' is happening every revolution when ther raised lettering/barcode on the belt roll over the tensioner. SO i guess its just a case of leaving it be until the lettering wears down a bit...
The lower tensioner seems to tick every couple of revolutions, it's brand new as of 2 weeks ago(just about). I've had a look and it's fitted fine and the belt is on correctly, is it doing it just as its bedding in or have a got a situation?
