Hi All;
Dan172 has trial fitted 1mm and 1.5mm PTFE gasket - first thing the 1.5mm fits bang on so we may as well always run with the thicker option.
Secondly....
"....a good 4-6 degrees C lower throughout all the time compared to before! I did the same drive as before, with the outside...
think we are going to trial fit with 1mm and possibly 1.5mm if it will fit and we can get the material available.
will update shortly - material will be with us monday.
Dan172 is going to trial fit and feedback on reduction temps by measuring with accurate digital equipment - this will settle once and for all. Will relay results as soon as we have them back.
Sorry for the delay in response been off poorly :(
Right - I won't get a batch made - I will contact someone on here to trial a PTFE version following Fred's comments for thickness and see if there is any temp reduction - following a definitive test we will see if there is any scope for these at all.
benr - I know you really know your stuff...
I agree - there are some really crap PTFE gaskets out there - some of the ones on ebay are really poor...
However the material we use is very high quality and people are even using them on the clio williams forum to try and fix air leaks on the throttle body - i.e. for a better seal not...
I think it is a case of every little helps...
Whilst the contact point is minimal and heat reduction will only be reduced by a small amount using this gasket will still help...
Finally we don't use the cheap PTFE, we use best grade we can source...
Valver engine bays get extremely hot...
Dont know if you have got one locally but motabits sell a high temp paint that gives a lovely almost dark charcoal finish. it is like dust to spray on and dries almost instantly but if you give it a few coats it comes out spot on.
can has got a manifold on the front and comes in a variety of...
haha - great minds mate!
Literally when we have a thickness decided they will be readily available.
Good to see we have the interest and not just wasting our time!
Just so you know the couple of 16v ones we have sold on the cliowilliams forum have been rec'd with upmost praise for the...
Hi All;
Has promised - please see link...
For Sale 3mm PTFE Inlet Mani and T.Body gaskets

Don't think I can post in the For Sale section here as I am not a full member.. couple of my mates...
Hi All;
Just to let you know this isn't forgotten about - Fred is trial fitting the different thicknesses to see what we can get away with. As soon as he has given us the go-ahead with a thickness these will be available.
Thanks
As said on many occasions they are a direct match the OE one. How can you match to an inlet manifold when they are all different sizes - i.e. RS to std etc
Haha glad you like Fred! Got some pics across from the cutters todays of the clio 16v inlet manifold and throttle body gaskets we are working on - and of course quality looks superb.
You won't get anything closer than these to the OE spec!
Look fwd to viewing your thoughts Fred - let us...
We have sent Fred samples of 1mm, 2mm and 3mm thick plastic 172 gaskets to trial fit on the 172. He has rec'd them and has already expressed how good the quality of the lazer cut is.
PTFE sheet off ebay not a lot agreed but check the properties to make sure its of a decent grade and make...
Like I said to be honest mate the amount of time involved in making one from a manifold its not worth the hassle... if its just a one off for yourself dude then just buy some PTFE off ebay and get jiggy with a scalpel. Gather some interest, say 5+, though nearer to 10 would be better and cheaper...
We will be getting samples of 1mm, 2mm and 3mm trial gaskets out to Fred to try hopefully this weekend or latest early next week. I agree it will probably end up being 1mm, perhaps less but the thicker the better for performance so we can see what we can get away with.
We want to keep this as...
Fred thats great and people obviously value your opinion so will be a good feedback for the product.
We will see how you get on with the different sizes and take it from there.
PM me your postal address and as soon as its cut I'll get it over to you.
Many Thanks!
Well they will be machined in wales so no where near Nottingham!
It would ideally be a case of send them out to someone willing and get their opinion on max thickness we can get away with. Would look to get them a discounted/free final PTFE gasket as a thank you and also the recognition of...
UPDATE....
I need someone, if there is anyone, who is willing to trial fit this gasket on behalf of cliosport.
The trial item wont be made of PTFE but will be made of plastic to keep down costs - its literally just to see what size we can get away with using. Obviously the thicker the...
Just to bump this up as well...
We will be lazer producing a batch of these shortly which will be available on williamsclio and on here.
These will be an exact reproduction of the OE gasket and we will also probably be producing the throttle body gasket to match.
My mate had one of...
Surely there is enough play room for 1mm not to make a difference on this?
We need to come to a decent decision over 1mm or 2mm.
2mm will offer better performance but its not much good if it doesn't fit!!
Mini valver - with regards to the K4M. If you can get enough people interested then...
GDI who made the v6 ones also said that anything over std thickness on the 172 gaskets may cause issues so wouldn't 1mm be the nearest to this?
Which engine is the K4M? Sorry if thats a daft question!
Just a point I am looking to get these lazer machined and dont want people moaning about mine not being flat...
It will go flat when you bolt it up. Cheers
TBH I don't think the price difference will be great between 1mm and 2mm - however if GDI think that they need to be as near as possible to the original gasket thickness then we will try for 1mm.
Leave this with me and I will be in touch once we have made some more progress - i.e. got some...
As above what thickness do we think would be best?
Would fitment be ok using 2mm? 1mm would be cheapest however would this be too thin??
To be honest I can only see an inlet to plenum being an extra cost people wouldn't want to pay - the inlet manifold gasket will give the biggest benefits.
No point in messing with the rubber seal.
Questions are then:
Do we need inlet to plenum gaskets as well?
Whats max thickness the PTFE can be?
As soon as we can decide on these I can look at producing them, I presume there would be enough interest!
Well PTFE isn't cheap stuff to source so I don't want to be wasting too much on trying 1mm, 2mm, etc.
Thinking about it perhaps 1mm would be too thin?
FRED - what are your thoughts on this.. you seem to have a bit of experience with this - what thickness would you estimate??
Is there...
It isn't pointless and it will make a difference - its just as a case of every little helps - the less heat transferred into the head the better.
In peoples opinions what is the ideal thickness these should be? Looking into getting some of these made up so any thoughts welcome.
