Not much point in backups if they are on the same drive fella. Should be alright though, just try booting into single user mode (holding cmd/opt/something - google it ;)) and try getting in that way.

As danny says, you're insuring them because they might drive it one day. Nothing illegal. I have my dad as a named driver and my brothers wife as a named driver, both saved me about £100 each :) neither will ever touch my car.
