I just did this, works a treat, had to use the goldcard method which was a bit of a pain but all worked out in the end. Doesn't seem that much different to 1.5 at the moment but give it time.
I've got an old 5160, if its anything like mine you just undo the memory cover on the bottom (watchmakers phillips screwdriver) then it should all be self explanatory. You won't get it wrong, i promise you.
I've been with them since the start of January, can't fault them so far, never had a problem with signal loss as I think when you can't get a signal it roams to oranges 2g network.
I looked at the 9700 before I got my hero, lovely phone, screen was a bit to small which is why I forthwith hero but I'm sure I would have been pleased with the BB
I have been on 3 for 2 months now and can't fault them so far, 3G in 90% of areas i visit, hsdpa in the other 10%, Admittedly not on iphone but i would be happy to recommend the network to anyone in my area at least.
I am currently browsing on a 7 year old dell inspiron 5160 which other than OS crashes (XP Pro) has not broken once. Still on the original battery and it gets used daily.

You have to crop the song to a 30 second clip, export it to an .m4a (aac) then change the file extension to .m4r
that's obviously a much watered down version of the process but google is your friend.
