On that basis, what would be the difference between a small petrol and a small diesel at todays prices with say a 5mpg deficit on the petrols part?

A diesel will save you nothing over a small petrol with the extra cost of the fuel itself and the inflated price of the car. If you got 55mpg from a £500 car with £500 tax/insurance over 9k, how much would that actually save you vs doing 30mpg in your 172?

FF is 1110, Cup is 1021 147lb/ft, 169bhp FF 7.0, Cup 6.7

It's just a 190 with a kit. 189bhp, 133lb/ft, 1145kg, 0-60 in 7.2.

A 140 would be lunch but a 190 would be pretty close although they're quite heavy IIRC.
