You get more than ten minutes out of it with a normal HDD, the video is only 640x480. Its a Labtec, the pic is reasonable but if you wanted better pic you could spend a bit more, just make sure the webcam has a motion sensor feature.

I got a webcam from dixons for less than twenty quid that is motion sensitive.

You turn the code on in the set up menu, the one activated when Menu held down in Stand By mode. Its the security code for the unit which you should have gotten on a card with the unit. You can turn off the Demo mode by holding down [5] and pressing reset.

If I run new live / earth should I do that for the permanent live or the switchable? Dont really want a feed from the battery to the switchable wire cos then the face plate wont hide when I turn off the ignition.
