    Turini tyres?

Best tyre advice I've heard so far! :) If anyone is interested in a particular tyre just search. I like contisports (originals) - but its just a personal preference after all, mine are 195/45s

205 to 195 tyres - difference in handling?

I'll guess what your experiencing is mostly down to the different offset of the wheels, small changes can affect the way it feels to drive. It could also be that the tyres are newer? I find having lots of tread on the tyres (rears especially) makes the handling less precise in the dry. To me...

Topmount moves up and down? With video

... Fred... or someone? You're not the first to have this, If I recall some recent renault parts changes have resulted in the incorrect fitment in some cases. What part numbers did you buy and what came with it?

    Cutting After market springs?

Surely just buy the lowest springs you can find....swap your springs....sell your springs to recoup some pennies. Don't chop springs, there really is no "right" way to do it. Oh, and you willl probably end up needing new shocks soon enough so consider that too.

    182 full fat drive shaft

On any other car I would totally agree. But two genuine shafts are said to be around £500 which is ridiculous for a small hot hatch. A mild sweat builds when I think of the inevitablility of needing a gearbox refurb, new driveshafts, cambelt/dephaser service at some point if I'm to keep this car...

    Brembo discs

I stand to be corrected but I think there is only two Brembo's varients to choose from: The "Max" (not worth the extra IMO) and the standard which is marketted as High Carbon in brembo speak, or "HC" So there is no case of O/E or HC to choose between, if a seller is offering Brembos they will...

    tyres sizes

Mordente10 - What tyre and at what price are you looking at specifically? I went for 195/45 R16 instead of the 205/45 purely because they were cheaper for the equivalent premium brands. The availablity and choice of tyres to choose from was much the same I found as well. So unless you've found...

    fittament on a 172 cup?

What wheels have you have seen? the specs quoted is right, you just need to ensure bore is corect at 60.1 (it's common) VAG different PCD? PCD is essential to be right otherwise adaptors needed. I think VAG is 108? ET is important to me (but not to many)- it means the wheel center is the same...

Short ABS noise whilst medium pressure braking

I'm in the same boat. Good luck with the cost of it all!!!! (I doubt you need to do that though) Just for info - after any service work on my brakes there is the odd ABS fart for the first few jurneys. Even though I shine up the rings there is a brief period for 30 miles or so when the ABS will...

Short ABS noise whilst medium pressure braking

Well, if it's been looked at on a ramp then Rentec would have noticed any grease exiting from the gaitor. If they said the joints themselves were just beginning to wear that will not be related to ABS. I was more pointing out that the grease on the pickup (reluctor) rings is a common reason for...

Short ABS noise whilst medium pressure braking

It's a metal ring. On the front its on the driveshaft outer CV joint. Heat from lapping may have caused an already corroded peice of metal to crack? Easily checked. Also look out for the gaitor clip failing and spilling grease onto it. In a bizare way, the ABS triggering may be an early...

    What Tyres?

I like Hankook also, had v12's when they were fresh on the market around 4 years ago when I had a 2.0l 205 GTi. I could only compare them to Toyo T1R's though (they were better than the toyos) I also had Hankook's RS2's in 205 50 r16 (an equivanlent of firestone RSR's?) on my scooby STi at...

    What Tyres?

In 195 45's just get contisports. I like the dry/hot feel of the original contisport (which you can still get) but the CS3's are probably better all rounders (I'm told theyre better by other 172 driver). Otherwise look for Bridgestone RE050 or Goodyear GSD3, both very different feel - B's are...

    Goodride budget tyres

You have summed it up then! That's furums for you. I would run them too if they were on the rims when you bought them - an excuse to ruin them at each roundabout! Just get something better when they're shot. It's not like they're going to kill you, only the soft bit behind the wheel can do that :)

Tyres of choice for 172 Cup?

I know what you mean but I kind of don't rate the PS3 for being the ideal replacemement... I felt the PE2 was sharper feeling wheras the PS3 is smooth and progressive but less tactile in steering feel and didn't stand up to dry cornering loads quite as well. I went through a front set of both...

    what brakes ????

Good quality standard (O/E) stuff with the use you will put them to. Brands to look for are Ferrodo, brembo, mintex, pagid. Or just go to Renault! A set of brembo O/E discs and pads for the front will be less than a set of "performance" pads on their own - and replacing as a disc/pad set is...

tyre gurus in here 15'' tyre choice

Ask Fred@BTM - If I recall correctly I think he has said he recommends 205/50 r15 to customers? One BIG advantage of 15s is the cheaper tyre... but only when they're 195/50's. (205 width still cheaper in 15's than in 16's though) 205's might give more grip but is it noticeable? I consider it...

    easy camber setting?

DIY for me too - then you can make adjustments to see what difference changes make. If you've lots of patience, a methodical attitude, right-angled straight edges, a tape measure and some form of lazer-level to project to the rear wheels you can do static camber and toe accurately enough - not...

Pattern part rear shocks making PH1 172 sit higher?

I'ts not ideal to have different rear shocks, always advised to replace in axle pairs... etc etc. But, like said above, it will be springs that give the height. Any invoices for replaced rear springs? Pattern springs are probably totally wrong for renaultsports.
  24. KevF182

    Strange handling.

When my rear shocks were gone there was no way you could tell by just bouncing corners. Admittedly they were not completely gone but they were faulty. There were no leaks on mine either. I only decided to check out of piece of mind so I dropped the axle, as described above, and easily could tell...

A fight with my conscience and bank balance - SPAX

Are your mate's driving clio's or something else? Tony Hunter's wise coments on another recent thread summed it up for me - you may get a about a second a lap faster with a well set up suspension over standard. Suspension is unlikely to make a night-and-day difference if your mates are clearly...

Tyres of choice for 172 Cup?

Not a 172 cup but on my 182 FF... In the 205 45's I had a mix of the pe2 and ps3 michelins. I tried each at both ends in a similar state of wear and found not a great deal of difference. Swapped them for 195 45 contisports all round (not 3's but the original OE tyre for ph2 172's) and now with...

    EBC Yellowstuf pads

I've always recommended these after using them in past cars (scooby and 306 GTi-6). They're not trying to compete with the ultimate track pads but in their price range they are more fade resistant than mintex 1144 (which is what I've compared them with) However, I'm actually more drawn to the...

How can a garage tell if you have cup or std suspension?

Fronts have both yellow and blue marks, rears have red and white (on a 182 cup). This is what I see on mine and research says it's correct and original. Any experts please say otherwise so we can all learn this.

Got a dyno run in half hour.... exciting

I'm pleased you posted this, it seems the two main reasons for rolling roads are to measure an improved tune or confirm an expected cars health. The person doing this run could not help you with either aim. You now have doubts about the health of your engine and want to spend money but I think...
