    help buying abs sensors

Please make sure the sensors are definately at fault first! Check the conector by the front subframe - the rear sensor loom runs by the nearside of the exhaust and I found my conector was contaminated with floodwater when I had some issues a few months ago, all sorted now I've cleaned that...

    Bridgestone RE002

look OK don't they? Always thought I would go for YOKO AD08's to replace my current Contisports. The car is used daily (can fit winter wheels if needed)... If these can be got for around 100 quid each then I'm tempted to fit a set next time - I only do a couple of track days a year.

    Bridgestone RE002

http://www.bridgestone.co.uk/tyres/car-4x4-and-van/car/sport/potenza-adrenalin-re002 New-ish tyre from bridgestone. They make it in 205/45 R16 size, anyone tried them? Looks like a lot of rubber, a good road and occasional trackday tyre?

    Michelin PS3s

No, it doesn't make them directional, it makes them asymetrical. Directional tyres are marked with an arrow stating the rotation. With asymetric tyres, such as the michelins, you can put the wheel/tyre combo on any corner of the car without having to re-fit the tyre. Directional tyres can only...

    This happens far to often!

If its happened a few times then I would suspect either the L shape slider is from another car or simply that the pads friction material has got too thin. Can't see any other logical explanation really ????

    Uneven pad wear...

Totally agree, I would expect both pads to "wedge" to the same degree if wheel bearing wobbly, thats what I found with a 205 I had. With the piston I was thinking if it were partially seized it could apply uneven pressure accross back of pad, or not retract straight...etc. - could account for...

seized piston? play in wheel bearing?

    decat question

exactly! Mine is stood upright in the shed, was a struggle to get it off in one piece (most just cut it, I didn't). I wouldn't say I like the sound of the stainless system I have put (kept the cat in place, its not restrictive) but at least I know I can always put the standard one back if I...

Cup rear brakes. The age old 'low effort' issue.

Yeah, I think your right to be looking into it. I would get the discs and pads replaced, there shouldn't be corrosion of the disc face and it sounds like it will be the main problem. Don't try and clean the corrosion off by driving with the handbrake on, there is a possibility that the piston...

    New rear tyres = Twitchy

Your tyre pressures seem fine. I definately think it would be worth swapping fronts to rears. You will be supprised at the result - will feel much tighter handling. Otherwise just put up with it until they scrub down a bit, that's the problem, as others have already said.

    Alignment cost

When I got my peugeot 308 lease car last month with 6 miles on the clock the steering was like in that pic of your 200 above - it was way off to the left! On a brand new car, couldn't quite believe it!

    Alignment cost

Camber is 0.5 and 3 degrees. Caster is 1.5 and 3 degrees by that print-out. I agree, it's a mess! I can see why your annoyed with that service. Hopefully when the camber is corrected properly the caster will be more equal too, but as you say, it's not adjustable so not quite sure why i'ts 3...

    Alignment cost

Wherever you choose just make sure you get a print out of the results. That way you'll know if what you've got is right for you and which way you may need to go (with advice on here if needed) to get it how you like it.

    ABS Sensor fault finding

Well if the fault lies in that remaining section of the wiring I can see why you'd want to ckeck but I think it's unlikley. If it's just resistences youre checking, then do as above.

    ABS Sensor fault finding

I don't think you'll need a diagram. If you just look at the wires you should find where they connect. On the rear the wiring from each sensor comes together around the rear beam toward the passenger side where there is a pair of connectors - unplug here and check. The loom then runs under the...

    et 42 any good (ofset)

Offest "conrols" the mounting face on the wheel to the hub face only. the bigger the number = more inwards (always a minus number on our cars) yes the other aspects you mention are correct when differing offset.

    Cup packed oem arch gap

Cant say how level the drive is but just measured: osf - 125mm nsf - 126mm osf - 123mm nsr - 121mm from center-top of standard 182 rim to arch vertically above it. Cup packed 182 FF. Some girly clutter in so a little overweight perhaps...

    Making braided hose

Hopefully on topic - I have some braided lines that were intended for a 306, never really though about fitting them to clio but what might need doing to make them fit? I doubt lengths are right but are the unions likely to be the same and is it easy to cut them to length?

    Toe settings?

Your not the first! I do it DIY and have done for years - but I don't use string. I would rather do it myself with homemade gear than pay £25 quid to any backstreet tyre fitter (due to not trusting who does it) but obviously it wont be as accurate as a proper alignment outfit who would ask for...

Camber, Caster & Toe... What should i get it set at?

Agree, its not 28 mins by my calcs. However, nobody has said if it's total toe that is being quoted or single wheel toe. Easy to calculate and to sum up the figures for 1mm toe are: 1mm toe on a 15" (381mm) wheel = 0.15 degrees (9 mins). So if it was TOTAL toe of 1mm then it would equal 4.5...

    recommend me some tyres

I've had a set of Hankook v15's and I got on well with them on a light 205 GTi a couple of years ago. Holding the tyre before I fitted them they seemed quite a stiff sidewall, but I agree they felt a bit soft to drive on - my assessment of that was that they may have a really soft compound with...

    New Tyres

Bear in mind his point was that it was on an MX5, not a FWd hot hatch! That sort of mileage is just not going to hapen whatever tyre you choose for the clio if you drive it fast. To me, if you plan to track it and don't have dedicated wheels then it makes sense to run the roadlegal trackday...

    turinis?

The cup turini's are further out. If you want wider track width you must lower the offset. The numbers in posts above are right, but just wanted to clarify what has been said.

    New Tyres

Yeah, anyone who tests the limit of grip will wear out the tyre of course. I have never got more that 8k miles out of a set of front tyres in the last ten years of driving! To say if a tyre is worse than one or another for wear will aways be an individual finding and I would say track day tyres...

    New Tyres

my thoughts exactly ^ Good sports tyres are perfect all rounders for the road - it's their business to make them so. if you go on track then you might benefit when you want the tyre to perform at above normal temps
  26. KevF182

    New Tyres

You will notice the grip on track. I guess it depends how you drive on the road but its more a case of the tyre feeling better and being able to be pushed harder and still feeling like you have more to spare. Bear in mind I've only tried the Hankook RS2 trackday tyres which are no longer...

    New Tyres

Federal RSR's are road legal. As are Yokohama AD08's, Toyo R888's, hankook RS2's and other tyres with less void and more rubber on the tread. Yes, as you suggest they tend to be a softer compound and may wear quite quickly, although not as much as you may think - driving style dependent of...

    Wandering or unease at speed?

That does sound frustrating - I would look at the inner rod joints where it conects to the rack. Is there an obvious knock when you turn the steering side to side whilst stationary? I would also swap front wheels to rear and see what you think of the handling then. But i think something is...

    205 Front, 195 Rear

The simple question of if the 205 is grippier than the 195 is a topic being posted a lot - so lots to serach for. My thoughts are that 205 should offer a higher lateral grip but fitting it just to the fronts as a way to balance the car is questionable - the effect your after might not happen if...

    205 Front, 195 Rear

The simple question of if the 205 is grippier than the 195 is a topic being posted a lot - so lots to serach for. My thoughts are that 205 should offer a higher lateral grip when fully loaded. However, fitting it just to the fronts as a way to balance the car is questionable - the effect your...
