Next generation X (X S?) will have touchID in the display IMO, they wanted it for this gen but the technology to make it work in such a slim package with OLED isn't quite there yet. It will be interesting to see how FaceID works in reality, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now but I...
Pretty much what I expected TBH, nice incremental bump for the 8 and the X is at least fairly pretty. I’ll reserve judgement on FaceID until I’ve tried it, not that it’s relevant really because I’m never dropping a grand on a phone.
An 8 will be my new work phone so nice to see it starts at...
I'd like to start at the budget end and if I really get the bug I can upgrade, so £300 to £500 tops for amp, speakers and some sort of streaming module. Not fussed about new or used.
I'll check out AVForums, thanks.
I have been having a look round eBay, but some of the prices on there for the stuff I remember are pretty incredible too ;)
I might get some new speakers and then just get a pick ‘n’ mix of cheaper stuff off the bay, cheap way to find out if I really want to get back into it properly again.
Many years ago I used to be properly into hi-fi kit, pretty much knew the "best" components to get at every price point (or at least what the mags said they were), blah blah blah. My own system was very modest 'cos I was only a kid and had to save up for everything, but I'd now like to get a...
Suspect they won't have touch id on the X, they wanted to get it integrated into the screen but it sounds like they couldn't get it to work in time. From what I've read the facial ID tech is going to be a big step ahead of other solutions - 3D modelling and using infrared too.
Personally I...
That's one of the reasons I quite like the new FK8 Civic Type R when looking at these uuber hatches, it's considerably lighter than the 4WD competition. OK that means it doesn't do well in a drag race off the line, but everywhere else it benefits.
Rumour is that they want to mark the tenth anniversary with different naming, but then that’s one of those rumours which has come about because it was originally said in the media ages ago and has become nigh-on fact through repetition. Maybe they will, maybe they won’t.
Heard so many...
The top end "8" will be ultra-premium pricing but all the rumours say there will be a 7S-type range too which will be less obscenely priced.
Can't see me changing my SE TBH, had it replaced under warranty a few months ago so it's basically brand new and does everything I want. Maybe if they...
Thing is, they’re a commodity now. Back in the early days of smartphones it was genuinely exciting to see the new devices because they were such a step forwards, now it’s just incremental gains.
Nothing wrong with that, but no point in expecting anything particularly earth-shattering IMO. I’d...
They’re the nuts on track mate, really work well, heavy so you have to drive around that and use weight transfer to help the turn-in but other than that I had no complaints at all and a grin a mile wide.
Just watch those front brakes if they’re standard, calipers can’t disperse the heat well...
Wasn't personally involved but there were a string of unhappy people and he threw in the towel AFAIK, there was a big thread on it a little while back.
Very nice
Really must do something about selling mine, I know I should just keep it as they’re obviously on the same path as the E36 M3 but I feel I’ve ticked the M3 box now and fancy something else.
RAID is great, but it's not a backup and from what you're saying it doesn't sound like you have a backup?
Personally in your position I'd get an external hard drive, back everything up to that and keep it somewhere separate to your PC, for example in a drawer at work if you can. Then every...
Ignore me, I'm going blind in my old age. :D
(Although to be fair, I'd just scrolled down to the specs without reading the description and it just says "Hard Drive/Storage Capacity 1TB", that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it)
They've been around for a while, nothing special. A sub-brand of Lenovo making budget stuff. I imagine that'll feel pretty slow by comparison with a lot of other laptops with a 1Tb hard drive and no SSD.
If you really like them you can get PCD and hub bore adaptors, H&R do them if you don't fancy a no-name one. Not the cheapest fix, but maybe you could get the seller to pay half or something rather than going for a refund.
Bit off-topic I know, but new work laptop has arrived and I'm really pleased with it. Unless OSX is a big driver for you definitely check out the Dell XPS 15, it's not quite as nice as the MBP in terms of that "quality feel" but it's very, very close and the screen is incredible - 4k touchscreen...
They are so (relatively) cheap to get silly power out of.
Other thing is they're pretty light which obviously helps the PWR along nicely. I'd have one. In fact, I may have one :D
I'm playing D2 at the moment and loving it, was a big fan of the first one. What does bug me about both games (although I know it's part of their brilliance) is after a hard day at work I like to play them as a complete badass and just kill everything and anything that gets in my way. I know...
Silica.... Jesus I remember them!
I was never very patient so I remember one day in my late teens a new Amiga pack had just launched, I think it was the A500+ with some games, and I actually got on a coach from Liverpool to Leeds to go and buy one because they had stock and back then shipping...
Again, depends on your circumstances. AC is overkill for a lot of people as their broadband connection won't even come close to saturating an N connection. Sure, if you're doing a lot of big file transfers etc the extra speed can be welcome and the extra range can be too. Horses for courses...
Powerline stuff is great if your home wiring is suitable, I used to swear by them but they're a bit slow in the current place because the wiring runs are much longer than in previous houses I've been in. They still work fine, there's just a significant performance drop off.
I use a £15 Netgear...
£79 for a battery replacement at Apple

CEX just sell used stuff like anywhere else, they do some basic checks so safer than eBay etc but still it's pot luck if you get a well looked after phone or something that's been trashed.
If...
Not sure if this is the reason in the Clio sizes too but there were a lot of cheap ones around until recently, they changed the compound for 2017 and a lot of places were selling the 2016 compound off cheap - I got a set for the M3 for under £600 which was a blinding deal for those sizes.
Centre cap rattles are a common issue on those, it's been a while but if I remember right they're supposed to have little pads on them to stop 'em rattling but they often get taken off when refurbed or just through wear and tear. There'll be a fix over on the Alpina Register forums I'm sure...
