Sound like the FBW Throttle body - Check the ECU loom ( were it connects ) also. Theres a metal protector over the ECU and this can rub on the loom casuing it to short. Causes alsorts of problems.

No - its not a straight swap. The E7J is a 1.4 8V engine and the K4M is the 1.6 16v. The wiring loom / ECU will be different. The gearbox will fit and so will the shafts. Personally i would buy K4M 748 out of an early 98 / 99 clio 1.6 16v along with the engine wiring loom / ECU / Plip key / UCH...

You can stick any JC5 into the 172 providing you check the speedo drive. If yours has a speedo drive you will have to fit a box with a speedo drive. Tim0172 ran an r-sport ECU / Decat and a viper with a stripped out interior. He ran a 13.99 @ 103mph. I had a similar set up but fitted to a 1.2 shell with 172 cup running gear. I ran a 13.9 without gas and a 13.4 with gas ( 50 hp jet ) + prog controller. A lot of it is down to driving skills

8200225212 is a drivers side drive shaft for a 172 cup 2001 - 2003 model ( CBIN SPL ). These are a single piece shaft and there not interchangable with a 2 piece shaft. If you get me your reg i will tell you what you need.
