The 1.2 is a work-a-day run about which will cope with motorway runs and will get you from A to B. If you can afford £2k+ in insurance sure get the extra 200cc's but imho just get something cheap to run as your first car.
Just read this.
If you want free tax.
You may get a MK1 capri with an Essex 3.0 but the colognes werent brought out untill the MK3. An Early Mk1 or the first year production run MK1 Facelift would be tax exempt but not the MK2/3.
Anything Pre 1973 is tax free. Hence why I want an old...
BTW I'm very f**king envious. If I didn't have a gf who nags about anything with four wheels less sensible than a toyota aygo I'd have one of these tomorrow. The 'fun' of owning a car like this would be totally spoiled by the constant nagging I'd have to endure!
They do a cologne V6 2.8i basicly the same engine as the Cortina Mk4/5 2.3 and the Sierra 2.9 Xr4 they also made an Essex V6 3.0 version which is often bored out to 3.1. There wasnt a V8 from the factory.
The best bet is a 2.8i the special has half leather a 5 spd box and is fitted with a LSD...
Dont listen to these philistines, Scirocco Mk2's are great and a much better buy than a Mk1 Golf, they handle as well and are just as tuneable and look better euro'd imho. but rather than being ripped off with the daft prices knackerd rusty MK1 golf GTi's (and even the basic ones) fetch you can...
Emulsified oil. If you are only doing short journey's in it that will contribute. Go for a good drive and get the engine throughly warm and it will probably all go.
A bloke I used to work with had to place a metal baking tray on the engine of his integrale because when it rained the water went into the bonnet vents and stopped it from starting the thing is I dont think he gived a damn, he seemed to love it regardless.
It still was an awsome looking car...
I mentioned how good the coupe 20vt sounds about 4 pages back, but yhea your not wrong they do sound the dogs.
I'm warming to the looks of them too these days.
^ you havent mentioned how the 20vt sounds like a nice group B audi rally car. If anything they are worth there weight in gold just for the noise they make.
About the 406 coupe, that was designed by pininfarina, hence why it still looks great. It'd have to be the v6 though. There was a LPG...
The previous owner probably just thought "I'll get it done at 72K" like 90% of other clio owners. I doubt it's neglect, at least you know what you are getting. I was daft and bought my clio with no research on 69k with no knowledge of cam belt service intervals.
Look, just go and drive the damn thing. All this could be out of the window if it feels like a dog.
That's a good price for a silver Phquick on a forecourt let alone a rare yellow one. but for god sake dont rock up telling him how rare it is. At that price he won't want to budge much as it is.
Winge about the cam belt wanting doing and the rear bumper (even though it's an improvement) and see how much of a bargain you can get.
You wont find another like it for a while and you probably won't loose much money on it, so long as you sell it on CS, especially if you have all the work...
For a decent job get the water pump replaced, if you can afford it you may aswell because if the bearing in that goes.... it's all coming off again. it'll give you peace of mind.
I suppose I paid about £400 or so for mine from a specialist, but mine is not a 2 litre. I imagine you could get it...
^ pop over on the Fiat forums, Fiats are not actually as bad as many make them out to be, I started getting intrested in them when a fella from the club came on here a year or so back after having a play with a clio RS.
Is the £5k including your cars value? If I was spending £5k and wanted...
Do either of you guys recommend warming the engine before an engine bay clean? I usually do because I'm used to old cars where even the slightest bit of water would sometimes stop the car from starting. Or is it better to clean a cold engine so the chemicals are not evaporating so quick?
I don't know much about greenlight and what they are like to deal with etc but that seems like a good price, considering the performance you're getting. I bet you were reasonably shocked by the quote?
A couple of years ago I saw a mustang for sale. I was quoted £99, yes, under a ton, for a...
You'll also want a new sump washer. about 40p
Tbh i just take my car somewhere for an oil change, less messy and I dont have to find somewhere to dispose of the old oil. Then do the rest of the service yourself.
The big advantage in doing your own change is that you can leave it there...
This is why I dont trust insurance 100%, you are buying a promise.
I often think when I've taken out a policy what is the level of cover i will 'actually' recieve if i need to make a claim.
Sometimes I feel it's not about getting the cheapest quote but getting cover with someone who is...
Because my car is black it needs cleaning after going out in the rain.
depending on the weather I wash mine once a week and wax once a month.
I think it's cool you want to spend a day doing the works to your car, not many women take such an interest in car cleaning..
I clean my gf's car...
Agree, the ph2 bumper looks loads better but on the 172 imo, it suits the smoothness of the front one better. I only think it looks wrong when fitted to a non 172 ph1. It's probably been fitted for the way it looks, if your worried Hpi it and check the boot floor for signs of damage.
Like...
True they dont look like the type of car you can get the detailing stuff out for but at least you don't have to worry about picking up car park dents and mucking about parking over two spaces.
I've owned cars which have had the rat look before (daytona yellow and rust coloured MK3 cortina...
