I will have two now and I am more comofrtble/confident to take one apart to see how it works to replace parts.
Glad its not choke related though. Just wondered how it worked too to try and eliminate problems
Brand new cable fitted last week so confident it's not that. Plus does it when actuated by hand. TB was also cleaned last week when when I had it off
If the choke is controlled by fueling and not something moving/mechanical then I am confident the TB is at fault.
I know how a choke works on an engine! But how does the one on a Ph1 172 operate? Is it like done through the ECU/timing/fuelling? Or is there something mechanical moving something?
Only asking as I am trying to eliminate problems with my sticky throttle. Cleaned all up and it still is sticky...
Blimey that's a big job! I'm sure I have the ability to do this on a second one so I don't c**k the one which sort of works up resndering the car useless for a while!
I've just been out in the car after a few hours of the oil soaking and it's improved quite a lot, just appears that the throttle...
Also I have just found out it will only not return to the stop when the car is running. If the car is off the mechanism goes back to the stop regardless how gentle you move it. This is just confusing!?! It is as if the air moving past it is holding it open slightly.
I did damage the clip on the...
Ok throttle is still a bit hit and miss.
I don't think there is an air leak as it will idle at under 1000rpm when warm.
But if you are on the throttle holding at 30mph and then lift off the revs don't die down. But then if you blip the throttle with the clutch down it idled fine. Had a quick...
People might read this thread in the future so I thought it would be an idea to add a little more after changing the throttle cable again today.
When I first changed it in January it was quite fiddle to get to everything at the bulk head, probably the reason why it took a bit of time. Just...
I read this thread a while back when I changed my throttle cable for the first time and was useful for pointers. Had to change it again today as it was damaged (damn garage breaking it :rage:). But yesterday I had the inlet off as I was changing the HT leads and thought there was a lot more room...
Throttle cable changed  Was really simple, mainly as I knew what OI was doing after only changing it in January and I had the brilliant idea of removing the inlet to give me loads more room!!! I t was done within 20mins, and that includes getting the tools out of the garage and taking the...
My freind had buckets with normal seat belts in his old BMW, worked fine when I was in it. I also think he has the same set up in his current car, or at least the drivers seat.
No pics sorry, mainly as that car is now sat in my garage with different bucket seats and harnesses!
What's the...
What do you use? As I have been looking at getting a phone app to OBD reader for my Ph1, and like you don't wan't to waste money on something that isn't going to work well.
After things like code reading, sensor information, live information and any other useful stuff like that

Thank me later.
I have used this, and I am heavy handed with a drill, and it worked out fine. I was very surprised. I actually got 4 lenses covers...
Also booked Cadwell Park for the 4th December with a few friends. One has a 182 and the other a Mk1 MX5. Hopefully will be quicker than the 182 as it is pretty much standard, but I am quite conservative in the braking zones as I don't want a crumpeled car! So we will see.
Discovered my engine mount had been doing naff all.
Not sure when this actually happened, but I could have done track days like this!
Now fitted with a Vibratechnics one
Fitted some Magnecore leads, and on leads 1 and 2 at the spark plug end there is a small winding of clear plastic around the lead where it is longer on lead 1. The picture that came with them were the blue ones and didn't show this bit. I am presuming it is some form of protection? And do I...
Had a bit of a tinker with the car today. Fitted the freshly painted inlet manifold, cam cover and solid top mount. Took the opportunity to change the coil pack and leads. Afte the failure of the last coil pack and leads I bought, this time I opted for a genuine Renault coil pack and Magnecore...
It's yours @DannyR ??! Have seen it on eBay. If it were a little closer I would be tempted. What is wrong with the paint work for it to be not up to your standard?
And not the only black one on eBay with a Ph2 rear bumper! Well there were two the other week.
So it has to be the "genuine" item? I am sure I can sort a washer out aas there are plenty kicking about in the workshop, or re-use the washer. Just the heads looked old compared to the fresh painted look I wanted to change
Sounds like I had it sorted in my mind!! Yeah will spread the weight, I have seen horror stories of jacks going through/damaging sumps and that, but I will find a suitable place to support it.
The engine tray has been off serveral times, it was off last week when I changed the oil so pretty...
That's a better price! Tbh I was only going to go to Screwfix or similar if there was no reason to keep the originals
Any idea the Renault ones are stupid money?
Have got a Vibratrechniques engine mount to go onto the car. It was second hand so I painted it to match the inlet colour (all to be fitted hopefully next week!).
Looking at the current bolts that hold the engine mount to the car they look a bit scabby compared to the fresh painted stuff...
There were two silvers - Iceburg and Titanium (correct me someone if I am wrong!). I have a Titanium and that had a stock steel bonnet. I was under the impression that it was selected Titaniums that had the ally bonnet, aka whatever was to hand at the time of fitting is what I have read several...
I thought it was him that owned it?
Thought they stopped trading before this summer? And I presume they stopped trading due to so many poor reviews and that about customer service and him "taking people's money".
Somehow I got lucky when I got stuff from them last winter.
Top dash, steering...
Car got a bit of love this weekend - oil and oil filter were swapped and I also changed the pre-cat lambda sensor
Had a missifre issue under acceleration and it was suggested that the lambda sensor is the issue; I would have not guessed that for ages! However after changing it the car has...
For anyone in the future who may read this with the same issue, I changed the pre-cat lambda and it has seemed to solve the issue. The car is totally different to drive, so much better - it actually pulls a lot more and more responsive. Quite surprised as it suggests it had been gone for some...
Looks like a nice example of a Ph1....keep it that way!! I have a sneaky feeling they are going to go up in value soon. I need to get a second one to use as a daily.
Changing the throttle cable is easy, just a bit fiddly. A bit easier with two people. I would also recommend getting a genuine...
