hang on, the units must be sealed to an extent, otherwise each time you switch on your lights you light up the engine bay which leads to less light out front.

Ive got a full mongoose system with de-cat. and yes, ive re-fitted the damn thing 50 million times as well. It does stick out a bit but not excessively and looks good if you keep it polished.
Keep jugleing it till it sits right but itll always knock somewhere

Im 99% sure youre right about the bolt. I changed mine and the head of the bolt was on the downpipe side. I was changeing my whole exhaust at the time so the downpipe was loose and i was able to put it in properly.

Get the car on a rolling road/dyno and see what sort of power and torque is available at the top end of the rev range. If theres alot (like if you had a Honda V-tec) it may be worth uping the limit but personally i think the extra few hundred revs will make more noise than power on almost any Clio.
