Could be your ABS if you have it? Especially as you say it happens under heavy breaking?? I know mine scared me the first time it came on, feels like a juddery grinding feeling ... scared the s**t outa me :S

Gutted for you m8 :( I know I would be fuming! All I can say is just make sure it gets repaired properly and nothing is bent underneath ... the last thing you want is you getting it back all looking ok and then a few months down the line it starts ripping the arse out of tyres etc, especially...
