Im replacing mine with Wharfedale Valdus midbass, and Im planning to do exactly what Freds done with his, its a great way of fitting the new ones tidily but keeping the ability to put the cr*ppy stock ones back in for flogging the car. Alternatively you can buy Blaupunkt custom fit range...
...unless your local garage happens to be Arnold Clark and full of w***ers who refuse to touch your car for warranty work just cos youve upgraded the sound system!!
djmcfish, you can say that again!! Im having my second set of serious electrical problems in my year old Clio, pressing the foot-brake makes the indicator speed up, the indicator stops when I engage reverse gear, the bulbs flash at random when I indicate right (any two of the three could be...
Fred, Id love to see your car slammed 60mm on 17"s as well, so I can decide how much of a drop to put on with my Kahns when I (hopefully) get em in the next few weeks. If youve got pics would you mind sending them to me @ cliosport17s@yahoo.co.uk? Cheers.
You can still yank the parcel shelf up from the inside even if the boots closed and the seats are up, I just tried it and it can be done. Its not easy but someone whos already gone to the effort of breaking into your car is gonna overcome a cardboard shelf which just sits on at one side and...
Theres no easy way of doing this unfortunately in a hatch like the Clio. You could bolt the seats up against the side panel so they dont fold back but the thief would just lift the parcel shelf to get into the boot, and due to ther flimsiness of this theres no way of securing it fully.
Wow, that kit is lovely!!! It looks as mean as hell without being over-the-top with big meshed bits and ugly bulges etc. I want one! Pity it wont fit my Mk1 shape car!
The bass noted wont cancel each other out. The only effect will be that you wont hear much bass coming out the 6x9s because itll be drowned out by the subs. It certainly wont detract from the overall sound tho! The 6x9s are designed to be run from a full, unfiltered frequency signal and this is...
The best technique in my experience is to crank your head unit volume up to approximate 3/4 of its maximum, choose music with as wide a range of frequencies as possible (ie. music with bass/percussion/vocals), and then adjust the gain on each of the amps one at a time gradually up until the...
Does anyone know the approximate weight of a typical aftermarket backbox?? Is it likely to be under 25Kg? Just that Im hopefully buying a Scorpion one for £35 if I can get it posted cheaply enough. Also, how easy is it to fit a backbox for a novice? Im hoping to do it myself and Ive heard its a...
Watch your warranty & insurance chipping your 172, cos Renault wont do warranty repairs to the engine if they know its been chipped (they deem it unserviceable) and a mate of mine chipped his brand new Corsa, wrote it off and got no money out the insurance co. cos he hadnt told them it was...
30cm? So thats basically just a 12" free-air sub then??! How do you manage to fit em on the parcel shelf of a Clio?? I had enough difficulty accomodating my 7x10"s!
philyau,
Im looking for a set of the adaptors you mentioned, do you have a brand and model number as Im having difficulty getting my hands on a set? Cheers muchly.
I would definitely say so. 100W RMS is enough power for 150W RMS subs to be pretty loud. I used to run two 200W RMS subs through 1 channel each at 55W RMS (160W peak), and this was still loud enough to make my mirror move about 1" and shake my exhaust loose!!
Youre right, but you can only bridge one 4-ohm sub at a time... you can connect 2 speakers/subs to one channel (in parallel) but you can only bridge a single speaker accross two channels (unless your amp is 1-ohm stable, and this is very unusual). If you try this and youre amps only 2-ohm...
What type of music do you listen to Ben? Because my advice would be if youre a dance nut, get 12"s in a sealed box for thudding bass, but if youre into music with more defined basslines (hip-hop, drum & bass, garage, etc.) and youre looking for clarity, get a ported box with 10"s.
That is an extremely odd way of wiring three subs!! You need to have an amp which is 1-ohm stable, (assuming the subs are all the usual 4 Ohms) as youre effectively running 3 speakers in parallel over one channel if you buy a monoblock amp. Anything else and youll f*** the amp and the subs big...
The best all-round tires Ive come across are the Toyo Proxes T1-s. They give superb traction in the wet and dry, and they wear out reasonably slowly for a hi-performnace tire. As for wheels, XS Motorsport in Hamilton can supply and fit any wheel imaginable for a decent price. Im not sure if they...
I decided to fit a Lightning Audio 1-farad cap in my system, even though I only use one 600W amp, because I was getting a little light dimming and distortion from the amp when cranked and I wanted to crisp things up a bit. However, the cap made absolutely bugger all difference - a complete waste...
I would say that the separate amps, with a dedicated monoblock for the sub is the way to go, if you want the ultimate in quality. If you have another 4-channel this will allow you upgrade potential as well. If you want to add 7x10s or 6x9s or some other speakers to give more quality soundstaging...
Sorry Chris, missed this one! Yeah, I reckon the Directed install is definitely a goodun, especially at those prices. Cant really go wrong with that little lot, Id say - thumbs up from me!
The differences would be absolutely tiny, far too small for any audible difference, as the sound signal travels along the cable ridiculously quickly! Youd need a good few dozen metres of cable before you could get even the tiniest noticeable difference. The only thing that will have a delaying...
I assume yours has twin headlights like mine as its a Sport, in which case you can get them from http://www.renault-components.com for £38.26. This is the cheapest I have found them.
There are two options here... one is to go for the OEM autochanger which your Renault dealer will be able to supply, but this will be very expensive indeed (I would guess around the £400-500 mark, but I dont know for sure). The second option is to go for a universal aftermarket changer unit...
