Im struggling with the same problem guys, cant think of a decent place to mount my amp. I have zero space in the boot cos of my new sub boxes (a double 10" and a double 12" in a Clio anyone?!), the amps too big to fit under the passenger seat (and this is a bad idea anyway because you need...
Id ahve to agree. The Kappas are good (better than the Reference series), but the Perfect series are amazing quality for only a bit more money, they are a match for Focal for less money in my view. The older Infinity Beta series was pretty good too.
I might be selling my Genesis amp if I get an acceptable offer for it. Chrome SM 60, hand made in England, boxed, perfect condition. Its mindblowing for running a set of decent speakers or a single sub. Heres the ratings (in the usual very conservative Genesis way):
RMS @ 4Ohms : 2x30W...
Yeah, excellent amp that Impulse one, and you know its louder than the rating cos Kicker rate low for competition purposes. Where did you get that deal from cos thats pretty cheap? Also, what gauge of cable is that wiring kit youre getting? Im thinking of getting rid of my Genesis stereo amp and...
lol, yeah I used to do a course in electronics with music in the evenings when I was in 6th yr at school. Amazing how much I actually seem to remember! Im not sure my informed choices of ICE are all that helpful to ther people, as Ive been constrained by budgetary considerations, etc. so I...
Hmm, if its going to be £40 more for the 629 then Id go for the Rockford Punch 120.2 at the same money. Otherwise, youre as well sticking to the smaller Kenwood or Alpine, as £60 is a bargain price for both of these.
No, I take that back! Check the specs of the Alpine carefully - its only 50W RMS at 2 Ohms! The Kenwoods quoted at 4 Ohms. Youd be as well tossing a coin!
Hmm, well in that case Id say the Alpine edges it (again if the Phoenix Gold QX100s not a possibility - it might be 35W RMS but all three of these amps draw 15A of current, so theyre going to be damn similar!), as its not an old model, as Id thought, either - its actually part of the V12 range...
It really is six and half-a-dozen between those two! I would say therefore that since your head-units Kenwood, purely on the basis of brand-matching, you should opt for the Kenwood. The fact that its a newer model is a plus too.
It is true that youre more likely to damage a speaker with a lower-powered amp, as its obviously entering clipping at a much lower volume. Use higher powered speakers and the current is the same from the amp, but the design of the speaker is such that they are more thermodynamically tolerant...
Eh? When a speaker is driven with a high powered amplifier to high levels, there will be a significant amount of current flowing through the voice coil. Since the voice coil has resistance, there is a voltage drop across the speakers voice coil (which the amplifier appreciates greatly). This...
Yeah, that PG amp is peachy as well. I would say that Id choose the KAC629S over the Alpine, but in my experience Kenwood seem to overestimate their power ratings a bit, I find Alpine are more honest so although the KAC529s about the same sort of power on paper, my bet is the Alpines a touch...
Oh yeah, and I have heard of sound staging but have you heard of surround sound? You put in as many speakers as you can all around you in your home hi-fi system to give you a multi-dimensional cinematic sound coming from every direction. You want to fill the room (or car) with sound, and the...
I think the speakers do make a significant difference.. theyre often the weakest link in any given system, especially a factory-fit one. 9 times out of 10 if youre hearing distortion its because the speakers arent able to handle the power coming through from the amp. After all, the physical...
The Kennys good, but personally I would go for Alpine MRP-T130 240W 2Ch. mama which can be had for £59 from Car Electronics. Its got the quality that goes with having the Alpine name behind it, and although not the biggest amp on the market, it should be powerful enough to run your 6x9s very...
Does that not only give it about 1 volt? I thought the remote lead had only a very low voltage through it?? Surely the neons a bit dim since its meant to be running on 12v?
Theyre unlikely to vary bandwith when quoting figures, but they do vary THD levels, as you rightly stated, and also voltage. They assume a perfect 14.4V when in practice youre lucky if youve got 12 on a standard battery.
Bridged should be 4 times RMS for a single channel, Ive got a physics book that says so in front of me! Also, you cant bridge across 4 channels in any amp Ive ever seen before!! You can bridge two stereo channels down to one mono, but you would need some kind of special amp to bridge across 4...
The biggest irony is of course the fact that Fuego actually means Fire in Spanish! Couldnt really sue them under the trades descriptions act for that one!
derv, when you say you wired it up to one of your amps, do you use a distribution block or anything, or just bridge it over the power and earth terminals on the amp??
Also, does anyone know if you can just cut off the cigarette lighter adaptor on a neon which comes with one and wire it in to...
A friend of mine got one and it was dead easy to fit. Theyre self-adhesive panels, you put them on and then heat them with a hairdryer to get em to stick. The qualitys good, the panels are quite thick and well-finished and the whole lots removable as well if you want to change it.
I would agree. At that price range, theres only two options for me... the Alpine one described, or Cadence. Cadence is one of the best US audio companies for SQ-meets-SPL type systems (the all-round performing equipment youre lookign for). You can get an excellent Cadence set-up with two 12"...
Ive put in Wharfedale Valdus mid-bass, leaving the original tweeters in the dash as theyre actually surprisingly good. Ive been well impressed with the Wharfedales though, really loud and punchy, as theyre designed primarily for dance music (big magnets!) As well as giving a nice sound for...
Simon, youd probably be best going for 0-gauge cabling with that little lot, just to be safe, as Im sure the three amps combined must draw at least 120A of current. The Yellow Optima will make a big difference over the standard battery, as its deep-cycle and will therefore be able to give more...
