If it sounds like the flaps are moving, but nothing happening, then it could be the cogs that move it have split. You have to take it apart & put a zip tie around it. I did it to my daughters Clio & it fixed it. I'll see if I can find the link.

I don't get why so many people seem to hate this. If all the Clio's were the same it would be boring. I like him doing something different to everyone else. My daughters black/black is lost in any car park

The square hole in the plastic splits so it can turn. Try a zip tie around it. I got a new handle from ebay for about £2.50, worth it as it's so annoying.

Sounds great! My first car was a 1973 Mini 1000 in Blaze. After that I had a Tara green 1275gt followed by a black 1275gt. Loved & missed them all! Good luck with the project, I will keep an eye on it
