I've been given a laptop from my old man and I would like to network it to my main pc. The pc is running XP Pro and the Laptop is running Ubuntu. Is it possible to network the two together via my router? (Router has 4 ethernet ports)

Is there a version(s) of Linux I can burn to CD and boot directly from that? (I.E Nothing has to be installed on my HD) Edit - Being able to boot it from a flash drive would be even better.

I've narrowed my new HD down to a 320gb Seagate 7200.10 or a 150gb WD Raptor. Anyone own a Raptor and want to convince me it's worth the extra money even though it's less capacity.
