yeah. not all police forces do it though. is bedford in buckinghamshire? if so thats thames valley and that's who i've just been with. you only get offered the course once every three years. 'twas £95. found out some stuff about road signs that i never knew, like the red triangles you see for...
gearbox replaced in december (£750 at garage)
gearbox replaced in february (£80 me and budgie did the work)
but you can add these too:
split radiator hose (£40 fit myself)
nail in tyre (only advisory on mot, got 4mm left)
caught speeding (£95 for speed awareness course, which i'm sitting...
think you might be the only one. for me personally, i wouldn't even drive a car if i was concerned about the integrity of the cambelt, but that's my view. you said you couldn't get it done due to funds, but three posts later you said you could afford it?! unfortunately it's not built as well as...
this is the cheapest place i could fine. they also sell through their online shop for a couple of quid more than ebay.

Not far from jms, that thought had crossed my mind more than once.
Not sure about bearings on driveshaft. Just kind of slotted into the splines, that's all I recall about fitting it

Re: Steering pulling to the right after gearbox replacement but tracking is spot on??
i'm on my own in this thread this week :)
given that two garages said alignment is fine and i'm still getting major pull to the right, is it worth paying the extra to get the alignment done on a hunter system...
Re: Steering pulling to the right after gearbox replacement but tracking is spot on??
i noticed today that when i'm parked up with engine running it's alot harder to put the final part of full opposite lock to the left than it is to the right. does this mean anything to anyone?
Re: Upper gearbox mount- turning upper nut looks like its going to rip the rubber mou
you could consider supporting it on a jack and loosening off the bottom bolt of the LOWER gearbox mount, allowing you to jack the gearbox up a cm or so and give you enough clearance to attack the bolt?
Re: Upper gearbox mount- turning upper nut looks like its going to rip the rubber mou
engine bay. wheel arch was a no go. once i figured i could get a spanner under the bracket and onto the nut i was away.
Re: Upper gearbox mount- turning upper nut looks like its going to rip the rubber mou
the nut on the bottom? lay a spanner on the top of the gearbox parallel with the radiator (ie at 0 degrees) and you should be able to slide it right under the mount and onto the nut. might have to force a pipe...
not sure if its different for a phase 1 but on the phase 2 there is a nut on the other end of that bolt. while it's all off, can you line up the bolt with the mount, should tell you whether theres enough bolt sticking out the other side to get a nut on.
isn't the nut on top a bolt, not a nut? either way it never budges for me either, i just go with the nut on the bottom. although from reading your post it sounds like the bolt was pushed up from the bottom and the nut on top, rather than the bolt pushed down from the top and the nut on the...
that threaded bar just drops through the middle of the mount and has a nut on the bottom. not much access though. i worked through the arch to get the nut onto the bolt, then from the top you almost lay the spanner on the gearbox at the same angle as the radiator (ie at 0 degrees) and you should...
Re: Steering pulling to the right after gearbox replacement but tracking is spot on??
i saw something on the mot worksheet about one of my wheels being out of balance. nothing shakes when i'm driving but would this be causing the steering to be out?
yep i'd have said rear shock. use to have a leaky one and car was all over the shop. about £50 a corner for genuine renault, two bolts and swap, easy job, prob need a breaker bar for the bottom bolts though
been thinking about getting a ph1 airbox, but already got an uprated panel filter so also thinking about just getting that caf.
that's my dilemma, will likely end up with existing set up and caf, as its cheaper
i hit a big pothole (was a metre square!) and went back half hour later to get pictures (after getting pizza). unfortunately i got done by a speed camera on the way back to take photos. :o
try and jump it with the negative on the chassis rather than the battery, like the engine hanger near the air filter housing. i had a problem with a dodgy earth and couldn't start the car with a battery jumped to the battery, but when it was jumped to the engine hanger (the thing they use to...
i can turn the wheel on my driver side with the brake depressed. or at least i could until i had the caliper replaced. the piston wound in and out ok and looked normal, but replaced it and my braking efficiency went from 40% on that side to over 100%
Re: Steering pulling to the right after gearbox replacement but tracking is spot on??
hi all, i'm back. gearbox is back in and working for now :)
steering problem is still there. i did notice while working on it that i can see little gaps in between the front arb and the bushes. didn't notice...
most of the time there isn't enough pressure to lock the wheels, you can turn the wheel by hand with the brakes on.
before the mot you should consider using a cable tie to force the bias valve all the way down as this should give you extra efficiency on the brakes. i'll take a picture of mine...
yeah not happy about it especially after saving a fair whack with me and budgie doing the gearbox but sometimes you just gotta suck it up. it's nice to be able to pick the car up from the garage with the work done and mot signed off as opposed to picking it up with no mot and a weekend planned...
