No idea mine works fine with plenty of albums and singles not purchased via itunes. Doesn't help you much but I'm not sure exactly whats wrong with yours.
Have you tried using something like Mediamonkey (free download) to apply the artwork to the music files?
Exactly what this man has said. Mines set-up with all my music on another drive and as long as Windows Media Player can see the files, they can be shared with the Xbox.

The guy runs a lamborghini, I hardly think its going to bankrupt him to move to an O2 tariff. O2 don't have great contracts on the iphone (other than the unlimited internet) but you pay your money and make your choice.
You're really better off looking at one of the ones DrRollo has posted up. That car you're looking at has neglected mechanically and looks tatty. I'm not sure why you're so interested in it.
No problem in the UK if your on the o2 tariff with unlimited data (ie check your plan). If you take it abroad you need to make sure data roaming is off (its set to off by default).
