i was in the same situation last week, decided to get a valver as there cheaper to pick up and i wanted the car for track use and i couldnt bring me self to strip a williams and change it, got a nice valver for £600, needs a bit of work on it, but its alot of fun to drive.
agree with fred, tig is by far the most skilled form of welding, when welding stainless steel you get that colour around the weld,(nothing a good wire brush wont remove) and if the exhausts are butt welded they need to be purged with argon to stop the weld "coking"
its not rust as stainless...
